One of the greatest responsibilities we have as coaches is understanding the influence we have on young people.
Nick Saban said it best:
“Leadership is all about helping someone for their benefit. If you’re helping them for your benefit, that’s manipulation.”
That’s a powerful reminder.
We all want to win. We all want our programs to be successful.
But coaching has never been just about what players can do for us.
It’s about what we can do for them.
The lessons we teach. The confidence we build. The standards we establish. The people we help them become.
Our success as coaches shouldn’t just be measured by what our players accomplish for us, but by who they become because of us.
That’s the responsibility.
And the privilege of coaching.

89 years ago today: Walter Cronkite called his first OU football game at just 20 years old.
Cronkite recalled his first broadcast at OU being a “disaster” because of his lack of preparation. It landed him in his boss’s office, and he vowed to never be unprepared again.
Years later, he would become known as “the most trusted man in America.”
Cronkite went on to anchor the CBS Evening News and became one of the defining voices of American television, covering everything from the assassination of JFK to the Vietnam War and the Apollo 11 moon landing.

Boys Of Fall would not have been the same without my good friend @SeanPayton. This is Sean giving a pregame speech in Naperville, Illinois where he played High School football. This speech wasn’t scripted. He spoke from heart. Sean is a great football coach but he is a great communicator and motivator. This speech still gives me chills. Sean I am forever grateful. It’s football season everyone. KC
Love him, hate him, or if you think Bar Rescue is over dramatized, you can’t argue with his belief in success and what it takes to succeed.
37 years ago today, the biggest rodeo star died from a freak accident at one of the biggest rodeos in the country. RIP Lane Frost. Every kid my age in rural America knew his name and lost a hero.
