Sport is emerging as a powerful driver of livelihoods, entrepreneurship, and economic opportunity. In the presence of Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Education, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and the Sports and Society Accelerator (SSA) signed an MoU to strengthen collaboration on research, policy dialogue, and capacity-building at the intersection of sport, skilling, and livelihoods. The occasion also marked the launch of the report, Livelihoods through Sports and Physical Activity: Opportunities and Prospects, which underscores the growing potential of the sports and physical activity ecosystem as a source of jobs, enterprise, skills, and inclusive growth. Estimates from the study suggest that by 2047, if the sports and physical activity sector is adequately prioritised and supported, it could employ up to 4% of India’s workforce through sports-related jobs. A landmark first under #PMSETU. The National Steering Committee has approved the Strategic Investment Plan for the Visakhapatnam ITI Cluster, submitted by ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India, making Andhra Pradesh the first State to operationalise an industry partnership under the scheme. The Visakhapatnam Cluster will bring together Government ITIs through a hub-and-spoke model, with industry playing a central role in upgrading infrastructure, modernising training, aligning curricula with industry needs, and creating stronger pathways to apprenticeships and employment. This marks a significant step towards building industry-aligned, future-ready ITIs and a workforce equipped for the needs of a rapidly evolving economy.
