A white cane represents independence, safety, and equality. Today for White Cane Day, the West Palm Beach VA Healthcare System opened the doors of the Blind Rehabilitation Center for a special open house.
Guests received a firsthand look at the essential skills training, daily living strategies, and cutting-edge adaptive tools that empower visually impaired Veterans to live life to the fullest.

What you need to know as you approach 65:
• Timing matters. Your Medicare enrollment window runs from 3 months
before to 3 months after the month you turn 65. Missing it can mean a
lifelong penalty on your Part B premium. If you have missed yours, ask Social
Security about a Special or General Enrollment Period.
• VA is its own system. There is no enrollment fee for all Veterans, and no bill
to Medicare or TFL for care you receive at VA.
• TFL fills the gaps. Once active, TRICARE For Life covers deductibles, copays,
and extras that Medicare alone does not, such as routine eye exams.
• Access can change over time. Your VA priority, local wait times, and health
needs may shift. Medicare keeps that door open.
• VA and TFL work together. Enrolling in one does not cancel the other.
Join us at the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge on October 24, 2026, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Veterans will be able to connect with VA Healthcare services, learn about the wildlife refuge, obtain free lifetime federal recreational land passes and participate in catch-and-release fishing workshops.
In recognition of the upcoming Columbus Day federal holiday, VA administrative offices and outpatient clinics will be closed on Monday, October 12th.

If you or a Veteran you know is struggling, support is always available 24/7 by calling 988 (Press 1).

At the Thomas H. Corey VA Medical Center, staff are taking part in a dementia simulation training designed to do exactly that — giving them a firsthand glimpse into what many Veterans living with dementia experience every day.

For 92-year-old Army Veteran Ron Singer, photography is not simply a hobby. It is, as he put it, “life.”
When his longtime camera stopped working, a search for a replacement led to an unexpected connection: a camera once owned by a fellow Army Veteran found a new home with Singer.
Now, Grumpy is back behind the lens capturing "the moments you don’t always remember.”
