BH’s accession to the #WPS Humanitarian Action Compact is an important commitment. For NL, this aligns with FemFocus 2026 - 30, our approach to gender equality and locally led development. Now, the focus must be on turning commitments into action.

A new @UN_Women report paints a bleak picture:
At least 1 million women and girls have lost access to critical support as funding cuts dismantle women’s organizations working in humanitarian crises.

We are deeply saddened by news of the assassination of prominent Iraqi WHRD and long-standing partner of the NGOWG, Yanar Mohammed, who dedicated her life to advancing women's rights and the WPS agenda in Iraq.
We reiterate that any attacks against WHRDs are unacceptable.

What Does a Feminist, WHRD-Led Model of Justice Look Like?
On 10 March 2026, at #CSW70 , @TheWIPCentre will convene a working session in New York to begin co-creating a feminist, Women Human Rights Defender-led justice and protection framework.
📍 Location: 8th Floor, Church Center (CCUN), New York
🗓 Date: Tuesday, 10 March 2026
⏰ Time: 12:30 – 2:00 PM EST
Why this Space Matters?
Women Human Rights Defenders working in authoritarian and post-war contexts experience harm that extends far beyond physical violence or legal violations. Surveillance, criminalisation, displacement, stigma, and prolonged insecurity create deep psychosocial and collective impacts.
Yet justice frameworks continue to centre institutional and legal responses alone.
This session asks a critical question:
What would justice look like if it were designed by #WHRDs — for WHRDs?
The New York convening will be a facilitated working session where we will share emerging lessons and begin shaping this framework together.
🌍 Not in New York? You can still shape the conversation.
We have created a short consultation form to gather perspectives from #WHRDs, practitioners, and allies across contexts. Contributions may be anonymous and will directly inform the working session and the development of this shared framework.
