Ansaru claims responsibility for the assassination of popular Islamic cleric Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka, accusing him of being an infidel. In an audio recording confirming responsibility for the killing, Ansaru said it carried out the attack at around 8:30 pm. While the speaker mentioned 'Talata' (Tuesday) as the day the attack took place, which could have been a mistake, the incident actually happened yesterday, Monday. Ansaru accused Masussuka of being anti-Islam. It did not mention any specific offence he had committed, though it suggested that the cleric's promotion of interfaith dialogue and peaceful coexistence may have contributed to his killing. The assassination adds to a series of security incidents in northwest Nigeria, as insecurity worsens ahead of next year's elections. The fact that Ansaru has claimed responsibility provides authorities with an opportunity to concentrate their efforts on the group and unravel the identities of those directly behind the attack. This is even more important given that the group also threatened those it described as enemies of Islam. In addition to Zaria, Kaduna, Kano and Abuja, Katsina has also been a prominent base for Ansaru over the years.

These are the same sorts of twats who joined the Black & Tans back in the day. A group who murdered my Great Great Grandfather & his son leaving my great grandmother an orphan who was placed in a Loyalist orphanage where she was beaten for speaking Irish & keeping a rosary.

Just a reminder: 163 articles were published on Jason Arday in the week after he resigned. Same outlets: 13 articles on Cambridge academic James Orr after allegations of misconduct & a broadcast showing him seemingly engaging in illegal activity. bylinetimes.com/2026/08/18/t…

Excellent run down of facts about the Church of England’s extensive complicity in the most economically transformative & longest lasting crime against humanity - facts that prominent right wing activists against Project Spire are desperate to refute: theguardian.com/uk-news/2026…

Daron Acemoglu blasts The Economist over their bizarre critique of him: “Your central verdict that I am 'oddly unconvincing' rests on unnamed economists revealing their true opinion of me over a few drinks. No persons who have been offered drinks to get to this truth are named. Would you publish a letter asserting that, over a few drinks, most people tell me that your newspaper is no longer worth subscribing to? The only person quoted with such views is a blogger, Noah Smith, a thin basis for judging a lifetime of academic work [...] If this is the best you can do with a body of work spanning 33 years, then it is your critique that is 'oddly unconvincing.'”

The Telegraph has deleted, without fanfare, the word ‘living’ from the headline of Stephen Daisley's article on Professor Arday. Today, it just reads “Jason Arday is proof that you reap what you sow.”

Prof. Hadiza Nuhu, an associate professor of pharmacy at Ahmadu Bello University, has developed Herb 25, an anti-malaria herbal drug registered by NAFDAC. The drug, developed after 12 years of research, is described as an enhanced ethnomedical preparation from herbs traditionally used in Nigeria to treat malaria. Herb 25 is formulated for chloroquine-resistant malaria and is dispensed in tea bags for easy preparation with hot water. University officials said it is the first anti-malaria drug of its kind to be produced by a Nigerian university. Nuhu, a senior lecturer in the Department of Pharmacognosy and Drug Development, holds a Ph.D. from ABU. She is also a member of the Nigerian Society of Pharmacognosy and research director of the Association of Commonwealth Traditional Medicine Practitioners, West Africa.

Pakistani madrassas have been described as "Weapons of mass instruction" for 20+ years. Data says otherwise: enrolment under 5%, no link to violence, and terrorism concentrated in wealthy, dense, non-madrassa-heavy areas. Read: buff.ly/qW4yzAh #Terrorism #Radicalisation

This is a so incredible! There are many times and places, especially in the Paleolithic, where we know humans live (due to tools, art, and faunal remains), but where we have no human remains. Being able to recover human DNA from of cave art (and walls) helps us fill these gaps
Remarkable. Recovered traces of ancient human mitochondrial and nuclear DNA, unaccompanied by faunal DNA, from a pigmented calcite crust at Escoural Cave (Portugal), as well as from an unpigmented cave wall sample from the same site. It also shows that traces of human DNA can persist on cave walls for thousands of years. “Investigating ancient human DNA preservation on cave walls and in rock art” nature.com/articles/s41467-0…

Will you learn an indigenous writing system for our language? "The Kíkọ Script" We’ve written Yorùbá using Latin letters for two centuries, but the Kíkọ script (by @kikoscript) is built specifically for our language, integrating tones right into the characters.
