There is no chance that anyone is going to challenge Hakeem Jeffries for Speaker, especially since he would be the first Black Speaker.
And it doesn't look like anyone is going to challenge Schumer in the Senate either. Van Hollen doesn't seem interested, and no one seems to have the appetite for taking on Schumer's powerful machine in the party. I'm hearing this from a lot of folks here in DC, and it seems to be in the zeitgeist. Schumer's incredible incompetence (which probably cost at least one Senate seat for the Dems in Florida and damn near cost Michigan and Maine too if Schumer had his way) is not on people's minds in the euphoria of yesterday's performance.
We should take this as an early warning sign. There's probably nothing to be done about it, but it should be a signal to all of us that we need to double down on our involvement on the issues, not ease up on them--which is what the centrists are going to say we need to do. Remember how wrong they have been at every turn and they know they are on shaky ground to say the least.

It is absolutely demented that one of the reasons Republicans believe they lost the election is because voters wanted “change our relationship to Israel.”
Not because that might not be true, but because America’s strategic partnership with a loyal democratic ally like Israel should not be a subject of political obsession. Especially not when it is the only ally fighting wing to wing with American forces.
We are not the cause of any of your problems. It is impossible to separate any of this from the multi billion dollar disinformation war waged by adversaries of the West to separate America from its ally—and from a history of scapegoating.
Nothing about this present psychotic moment makes sense outside those two contexts.
