For Weatherford College head coach John Putyrski, preparing players for the next level goes far beyond having Division I talent.
“They’re going to be ready for the Division I level.”
Putyrski wants his players leaving Weatherford equipped with the habits and mentality required to perform once that next opportunity arrives.
“They’re going to be prepared with their toughness, their mentality, how hard they compete, their attention to detail, their showing up early.”
And for Putyrski, that development isn’t simply something he sells during the recruiting process.
“That’s not just talk. It’s a promise.”
Even when a player already has Division I opportunities, Putyrski continues challenging him to raise the standard. Getting an offer is only the beginning — the goal is making sure players are prepared to succeed when they get there.
“I don’t want you to just get one Division I offer and be okay with that.”
At Weatherford, the expectation is bigger than reaching the next level.
“They’re going to be ready to perform.”

Head Coach John Putyrski pulled up to RevoStudios for an in-person stop on the JUCO Virtual Tour.
Coach breaks down this year’s Weatherford group, the names four-year coaches need to know and what he wants coaches to understand about the Coyotes heading into the season.

For Weatherford College head coach John Putyrski, the opportunity to take over the Coyotes became difficult to pass up once he saw firsthand what the program had to offer.
After spending last season coaching professionally in Europe, Putyrski initially planned on continuing his career overseas. But when the Weatherford job opened, his familiarity with the program from his time as an assistant at UT Arlington immediately caught his attention.
“I was blown away in my interview with what Weatherford has to offer.”
And Putyrski isn’t the only coach who sees the potential. Whether he’s talking with coaches on the road or over the phone, he continues hearing the same description of the program.
“Everyone says the same thing: it’s a sleeping giant.”
Now back in the JUCO ranks, Putyrski has an opportunity to put his own stamp on Weatherford and see just how far that potential can go.
