under ENSv2 the grace period for expired .eth names drops from 90 days to 28, and during it the name stops resolving
names that move to v2 get 62 days added, so existing holders keep their current grace end date
good moment to check when your names expire

lots of posts this week call ENSv2 migration permanent
per the ENS DAO forum draft, that's true. once a name moves to v2, its old v1 token can't come back
what matters more though is no deadline, and a name you don't move keeps working and stays renewable

wallets are where names actually get used
good to see metamask ready for ENSv2

I think the picture is even wider. ENSv2 strengthens what a name can do, across chains and the DNS alike. The convergence is coming. . .
ENSv2 Makes Ethereum Easier to Use and More Decentralized
.@ensdomains is a core piece of Ethereum infrastructure that replaces long wallet addresses with simple names like vitalik.eth, making crypto easier to use
Why does the ENSv2 proposal matter?
• Better usability: Makes Ethereum more accessible to everyday users by simplifying payments and digital identity
• Stronger infrastructure: Introduces a hierarchical naming system, giving users more control over subnames and permissions
• No forced migration: Existing .eth names keep working, with no migration deadline
• More decentralization: Transfers remaining ENSv2 control to the ENS DAO, strengthening community governance
• Built on Ethereum: ENSv2 is planned for Ethereum mainnet instead of a separate Namechain L2
The bigger picture: Ethereum needs more than scaling. It needs simple, reliable infrastructure that helps bring mainstream users on-chain. ENSv2 is a step toward that future

UPDATE: SNS says "the existing" .sol system *cannot be modified* to meet the next generation’s ICANN-requirements.
🚨 Existing #Web3 ".sol" names are transitioning to ".sns". Eligible holders receive separate "NEW .sol" names, (via a new onchain registry designed for potential DNS integration).
🚨 The new technology *supports admin powers* to "freeze, transfer or delete" names in permissioned namespaces. (That capability is documented; the exact .sol settings still need verification.)

By "ruggable",
I mean the control trade-off:
➡️ under ICANN’s draft integration model:
↔️ registry-enforced takedowns must carry over to the onchain name too.
➡️ The ".sol" is a new gTLD, (not like the unique situation for ".eth" & Ethiopia 🇪🇹
...If ".sol" follows that model, then putting it on a blockchain doesn’t remove that power & breaks the ICANN agreement of the gTLD!
🌱 ENS Protocol (which Doma uses) already lets DNS domains (across all ICANN TLDs) use ENS features, (natively, on chain)...while native ".eth" remains outside ICANN’s registry system.
✨ ENS Protocol can connect traditional domain/names to Web3, (without putting ".eth" holders under those controls)!!

gm, we're the ENS Foundation 👋
Our mandate: represent ENS at ICANN, IETF and W3C, pursue stewardship of the .ens TLD, engage on policy, and protect the brand, alongside @ensdomains and the ENS DAO.
Here's who's behind it 🧵...

If you’re out here bidding on stolen ENS domains from the Magic Eden exploit, your parents should be embarrassed.
They somehow managed to create both a thief and a low-life opportunist.

Bitcoin getting further integrated with EVM & ENS 🦾⚡️🌱 Ξ ₿ ⦅⦆
Block has joined the x402 Foundation, an open standard for agentic payments, to help build the rails that will let people, businesses, and agents pay and get paid.
We’ve also contributed Bitcoin Lightning payments, which is purpose-built for the instant, low-cost, high-volume payments that agentic commerce will depend on.

It is very important:
Own your brand/names;
1. Secure your ".com" names, (which are "ICANN #ENS", crosschain #EVM-Web3 domains/names), and,
2. Secure your ".eth" (which are "decentralized ENS", EVM-blockchain-agnostic ".eth" Web3 names/subnames), too 🌱🦍Ξ ⦅⦆
Peter Thiel on why the name of your startup is predictive of success or failure
“This is a slight aesthetic thing that I believe in very strongly: the names of companies are often very predictive of future failure or success.”
PayPal and Napster are the first example Thiel gives:
“PayPal was a very friendly name — it was the friend that helps you pay. Napster was a bad name — you nap some music, you nap a kid. That sounds like a bad thing to be doing, and it’s no wonder the government then comes in and shuts the company down within a few years.”
“You want to be very careful of how you name companies,” Thiel warns founders. In the context of the sharing economy, he likes Airbnb more than Uber:
“Airbnb sounds very innocent like this virtual bread and breakfast — this very light, non-threatening sort of company. Uber sounds like a bad name from Germany sometime in the 1930s. What are you exactly above? Maybe the law? This is probably something that, again from a regulatory perspective, I think Airbnb is a vastly better name than Uber.”
And on the social networking side, Thiel likes Facebook more than MySpace:
“You can say that all these social networks involve both reading and writing… Over time, reading dominates writing. Facebook was about learning about people around you — about their real identities at Harvard. MySpace started among wannabe actors in Los Angeles, and it was about them coming up with fictional narratives around themselves and a lot of other people in LA who are generally like that. And because reading dominates writing, Facebook would ultimately dominate MySpace. There’s a certain version where the whole arc of the company and the whole product arc was implicit in the names.”
