AN OPEN NOTE TO ALL RELEVANT AUTHORITIES IN GHANA RE: UNCONTROLLED HAWKER ENCROACHMENT ON THE TROTRO LANE AT LAPAZ – AN URGENT ROAD SAFETY CONCERN To the Ministry of Roads and Highways, Ministry of the Interior, Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Ghana Police Service, Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), National Road Safety Authority and all relevant authorities: For years, hawkers at Lapaz have continued to occupy an increasingly large portion of the trotro lane, gradually turning a designated traffic space into a trading area. Successive governments have come and gone, yet this situation remains largely unaddressed. The question is simple: How long will law enforcement look on while a serious road safety concern continues to develop? Must we wait for an avoidable accident, injuries or loss of lives before decisive action is taken? The encroachment obstructs traffic, creates unnecessary congestion and exposes drivers, passengers, pedestrians and the hawkers themselves to danger. As Ghana approaches its 70th Independence Anniversary in March 2027, it is time to demonstrate that discipline, respect for public spaces and enforcement of our laws are not merely things we talk about but values we practise. We therefore call on the relevant authorities to: Immediately address the encroachment on the trotro lane at Lapaz. Activate and sustain law enforcement to restore the road to its intended purpose. Ensure that hawkers are directed to appropriate designated trading spaces. Introduce regular monitoring to prevent a recurrence of this situation. This is not a campaign against people’s livelihoods. It is a call for responsible urban management, public safety and respect for the rights of all road users. Ghana’s 70 years of independence should be an opportunity to restore discipline and order, not continue to normalise lawlessness in our public spaces. Let us act before tragedy strikes. Lapaz deserves better, and road safety must not be negotiable. THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW!

Kojo Gyamfi’s Stepmother’s Curse Has Tormented Him for Seven Years This is the second case featured on Oyerepa Afutuo today. Seven years ago, Kojo Gyamfi’s father and stepmother had a disagreement. Without any real involvement in the matter, Kojo stepped in and insulted his stepmother, calling her “Obaa Foon” meaning “foolish woman.” Deeply hurt by the unprovoked insult, the stepmother placed a curse on him. She declared: “If I am truly the ‘foolish woman’ you claim I am, and if I have ever fetched water for you to drink or cooked food for you to eat, may the gods of the river bring their wrath upon you.” Since that day, Kojo has known no peace. He has been plagued by one illness after another, with constant health problems and no relief. Hoping for a resolution, he appeared on Oyerepa Afutuo so the program could invite his stepmother. However, his attitude showed no remorse at all. He arrived wearing a cap and refused to remove it when asked. He continued to accuse his stepmother of using juju on his father, trading blame instead of seeking genuine reconciliation. Because of his lack of regret and disrespectful demeanor, the panel asked him to return next week to learn how to show proper remorse. The stepmother also indicated she would bring Kojo’s father along next time to clarify the full story particularly since Kojo believes his father is the one supporting her, when she says the opposite is true. The case has therefore been adjourned until next week. Kojo’s behavior was so disrespectful that he was nearly removed from the studio.

A 15-year-old Ghanaian immigrant, Javits Frimpong, was fatally shot in the Bronx, New York, on October 29, 2026, roughly one year after moving to the United States to join his father. According to reports, he had recently been bullied at school. His father said two students involved in an incident with him were suspended (school officials indicated Frimpong had been defending himself). On the morning of the shooting, while walking to DreamYard Preparatory School near his home, he was ambushed by three masked teenage attackers. He was shot once in the abdomen, rushed by police to St. Barnabas Hospital, underwent surgery, and later died. Frimpong had aspirations of becoming a physician. His father has suggested a possible link to the earlier school conflict, though police have not confirmed a motive and are still seeking the three suspects (described as wearing black clothing and blue surgical masks). No arrests have been reported.

Life is not always as it seems. Even Judas’s betrayal played a part in a story that changed the world. Hold on to your values, trust God, and stay positive through every season. Today’s disappointment may be part of tomorrow’s greater story. Keep walking. Keep bouncing forward
