I showcase how real people are fixing real problems - in code, in policy, in their communities. Canadian. Weird about it. Also a Bard

If everyone who disagrees with you becomes the enemy, who's left? Twenty years of friendship. One different opinion. Suddenly, all that history counts for nothing. The number gets blocked. The calls go unanswered. The people around you are expected to pick a side. There is a difference between disagreeing with someone and trying to hurt them. Losing that distinction makes it easy to feel righteous while treating someone cruelly. But underneath the anger is the part that hurts most. You miss your friend. Dead to You by The Weird Canadian. The argument ended. The silence didn't.

His government has been in court 12 years fighting for the right to share passwords and distribute creator content without paying. So, apparently our government is NOT subject to the Copyright Act.

AI can fake anyone and AI agents can pass as human. How do you prove a real person sent the message that moves your money? Wes Kussmaul launched the Kussmaul Encyclopedia in 1981, the online service that became Delphi, and sold Delphi to Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation in 1993. He founded The Authenticity Institute and wrote Quiet Enjoyment, a book about bringing accountability back to social media. AI agents can already read your inbox, pay invoices and answer customers. When one gets fooled, or does the fooling, someone has to answer for it. Wes argues you don't have to trade privacy for accountability. His model works like a licence plate: you prove you're a real, accountable person without handing your identity to every company you deal with, and he says licensees are already building on it, from dating to hiring to signed content your audience can check. We also get into why nations killed a UN identity network, an identity database with no identity in it, human conservators for AI agents, whether software engineering as we know it is dying, and Canada's Bill C-22. I'm sorry, are you essentially going to arrest/ban people from doing things in your country because they didn't respect somebody? What kind of dystopian world is the UK creating?
Replying to @PolitlcsUK
From today, police, councils, social landlords and transport networks can apply to a court for a Respect Order, which can also include drug or alcohol rehabilitation, curfews or unpaid community work They will be logged on the Police National Computer so officers can identify breaches and make arrests As breaching an Order will be a criminal offence, the Government says they will only apply to adults to avoid giving children criminal records unnecessarily

It's one of the reasons I still buy dumb tvs and add a android box 😅 My TV doesn't need to be a computer. Cheaper in most cases too
Your smart TV can track what you're watching to serve you targeted ads. It's called Automatic Content Recognition (ACR). Check your TV's privacy settings and turn it off. Imagine needing privacy settings just to watch TV 😑

AI is amazing but you really need your own intelligence to back it up 😂 It's hard for me to believe it'll do everything most people state it will sometimes. Use it to be better at what you do, not as a replacement to do things

I run multiple AI models because I don't trust any of them. I have them check their work. Eric Mulvin's point: if someone doesn't like the answer an AI gives, they can go change it. We're heading into a post-truth world, and that's scary.

Canadian internet users may soon have their data handed to US authorities, with no Canadian judge involved and no Canadian court order required. That is the core of what Bill C-22 enables. Canada is negotiating a cross-border data-sharing agreement with the US that lets American law enforcement request information about Canadians directly from service providers, bypassing Canadian judicial oversight entirely. And it does not stop there. C-22 also lets the Minister of Public Safety order companies to build encryption backdoors, and mandates that telecom and messaging platforms retain your metadata for up to a year, regardless of whether you are under any suspicion. Is this not a sovereignty problem? A country that cannot protect its own citizens' digital lives from foreign law enforcement is not in control of its internet. The bill has passed the House and is now in the Senate. The window to push back is closing fast. If you are Canadian, the Canadian Civil Liberties Association has a petition. Use it please before it's too late.

It's really interesting when people tell you that a lived experience is not possible or wrong 😂

The easy jobs are going away. Eric Mulvin tells his own staff straight: step up, or go work somewhere else. His company is going after the tougher work, the work that still needs a person.

And yet the Canadian government choose to give $1.75B in tax dollars to VC funds....
Getting VC backing is a fools errand. New research says 88% of US venture-backed founders receive ZERO financial proceeds from their company ownership at exit, while the top 1% capture 79% of the total exit value. Not a small study. They looked at 157k startups and 348k founders across the last 40 years. They searched through actual SEC filings and a dozen other sources. Almost 9 out of 10 got zip. Nada. Zilch. Nothing to show for the stress and even the success of their venture. Now this doesn’t mean the companies didn’t become profitable or valuable. The VCs know how to structure deals so they get paid a return first. The founders go to the back of the line. Imagine building a company worth hundreds of millions. Then when it sells you get absolutely none of it. Wow. Now imagine an alternate universe. You and a cofounder stay away from VC funds. You build businesses that is worth millions or even tens of millions. You can sell it, keep it or close it. If you sell it, you get the proceeds. I’ve been asked many times why I’ve never taken VC money - it’s never felt like a good deal - and this research shows it’s not… nber.org/papers/w34512?utm_s…

Mercury into Gold 👀 We've figured out actual alchemy.... The use cases are abundant
Last month, we demonstrated high-rate alchemy: turning mercury into real, stable gold, beating CERN’s record by a factor of 10. Last week, we enriched isotopes in the world’s most powerful plasma centrifuge, beating the Soviet record that stood for 40 years. Now, we’re building a fusion reactor in San Francisco to achieve record power density.
