Congratulations to Dragon Chilling and everyone involved in organising the FIDE World Rapid & Blitz Team Championship in Hong Kong. ♟️🇭🇰 This event has a special meaning for me because it started as my idea in 2022. I believed there was space in chess for a different kind of team competition: international, dynamic, attractive for players, and engaging for fans. At the time, not everyone was convinced that a global Rapid & Blitz Team Championship could become an important event in world chess. Some felt the concept was too ambitious. I saw it differently. In 2023, we brought the first edition to life in Düsseldorf, turning that vision into reality. Today, it is inspiring to see how the event continues to grow and establish itself on the international chess calendar. For me, this is exactly what WR Chess is about: creating serious, high-level chess projects that respect the sport, support the players, and bring chess closer to new audiences. Chess has enormous tradition, but it also has still room for new ideas. I am proud to see this event continue its journey and grateful to everyone helping it develop further. Now it’s time to fly back home! P.S. WR Chess Team - thank you for making sure nobody accuses us of winning every tournament. 😉 Next year, let’s return to normal, please)

The tournament podium was swept entirely by the American players, with Niemann, Caruana, and So taking the top three spots in a hugely competitive field. After five unforgettable days of rapid and blitz chess in Warsaw, Hans Niemann emerged as the winner of #SuperRapidBlitzPoland with 22.5 points. Niemann led the event from the rapid portion and held off a fierce comeback from Fabiano Caruana, who finished just half a point behind on 22. Wesley So completed the podium in third place with 21 points. Warsaw once again delivered thrilling chess, fighting spirit, and nonstop drama from start to finish. 🏆 #SuperRapidBlitzPoland #GrandChessTour #Chess #GrandChessTour – at Warsaw, Poland

Dear Friends, the good news is that i am currently safe and everything is under control. Pneumonia and complications from it are not a joke, thank God i am doing much better now, and as the doctors said with the progress we are making, there will not be any impact on my general health. My expected time off chess will be from 4 to 7 weeks.
Due to health reasons, GM Levon Aronian will be unable to participate in the upcoming Super Chess Classic Romania in Bucharest. Dutch Grandmaster Jorden van Foreest will replace Aronian as a full-tour GCT player. The Grand Chess Tour wishes Levon Aronian a speedy recovery and looks forward to welcoming him back to competition as a Wildcard participant at the Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz and the Sinquefield Cup. #grandchesstour

Wesley So wins his first American Cup ♟️👏 "It doesn't happen often that I win a big tournament, so it's really unbelievable," @WesleySo_ said after clinching the title. In the final, he defeated Levon Aronian 1.5-0.5 to take the trophy. A familiar face at Norway Chess, Wesley will come to Oslo for his 6th appearance, and in great form 🤩 📷 Norway Chess / Lennart Ootes #NorwayChess #WesleySo

Our “Machine Wesley” @WesleySo_ will take Board 4 in Hong Kong and we couldn’t ask for a better team player. Always supportive, always composed, always in a great spirit. Exactly the kind of energy every top team needs. Wesley is back in top form now. Honestly, if you’re preparing to face him - better grab a Snickers or something… at least you won’t waste your time on false hopes. 😉♟️

Our Board 1 is back on board! Don’t miss the FIDE World Rapid & Blitz Team Championships 2026 in Hong Kong, June 17–21. Welcome back, @MagnusCarlsen. And yes - Board 2 will be @FabianoCaruana. @Vachier_Lagrave joins the lineup as well and our women’s boards remain unchanged with Alexandra Kosteniuk @chessqueen and the number 1 in the women’s section Hou Yifan @houyifan0227. Our captain remains the best coach on the planet, the bundescoach @GMJanGustafsson Bringing the world’s strongest players together and giving chess the stage it deserves has always been central to my work. Proud we made this possible. PS: Let’s see if Magnus adds World Championship titles #23 and #24 to his historic legacy. @chesscom
