Booked my autumn break with a transfer through Dubai on Emirates. My local host there scored me 3000 AED in hotel vouchers, which is frankly outrageous. The October fares are cheap, I feel safer there than crossing my own high street, so I'm in. Tea caddy hunting commences. 🍵

The UK ‘wealth exodus’ was manufactured by the press. The press complaints body IPSO must investigate or step aside. The story started with one study which now admits it has no evidence. Media owned by corporations and the super rich lapped it up. taxjustice.net/2026/10/19/th…

End hunger, not manage it. Our bookshop keeps a collection tin for the local food bank and it empties faster every month. 9 million people is a national disgrace.
Nine million people facing severe hardship. 1 in 5 running out of food. This is a failure of economic security, not individual responsibility. Back Trussell's call to restore housing support. Add UBI, universal basic services (UBS), inc a Right to Food. End hunger, not manage it.

Why would you not want Dubai architecture in London. They’re the leading innovators in the world and have produced some of the best buildings in the last decade. I love the shard, inside and out.
I really need a party to run on destroying this This hideous piece of dubai architecture should not be the tallest building in our capital city

Any man serious about his peace, wealth and freedom should move to UAE. IMMEDIATELY WITHOUT OVERTHINKING → ZERO income tax → ZERO VAT (if serving clients outside UAE) → ZERO corporation tax under $816K (Earn $816K keep $816K) UAE is a country with 200 nationalities living and working in harmony. There is no black and white, or right or left, the entire country operates as one unit with mutual respect for one another. Controlled immigration policies and a strong rule of law where success is rewarded. If you’re living in a shit environment - change it immediately and watch your life 10X. I have travelled to nearly 100 countries and this one blows everything out of the water. Drop me a message if you would like to hop on a discovery call with one of my team to explore your options to relocate and they will assist you. Forget all those company setup boutiques and consulting agencies - they will just over complicate the process, and overcharge you. KEEP IT SIMPLE. #uae #dubai #uk #france

The public inquiry into the police riot at Orgreave on 18th June 1984 has now begun. Anyone who was involved in any capacity is invited to attend two listening events in Barnsley on 28th October and Durham on 12th November. There's only one chance at this inquiry, so let's make sure every voice is heard. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5dj…

The same salary, two countries: £50,000 - UK take-home: £39,520. UAE: £50,000. £75,000 - UK: £54,057. UAE: £75,000. £100,000 - UK: £68,557. UAE: £100,000. £150,000 - UK: £91,286. UAE: £150,000. £200,000 - UK: £117,786. UAE: £200,000. Read the £200,000 row again. An £82,214 difference. Every single year. And it gets worse for the UK column: Above £100,000 the personal allowance starts disappearing, a 60% marginal rate. Above £125,140 it’s gone entirely Thresholds frozen until April 2031, so the columns drift further apart every year The gap is the actual expat advantage. Not the salary. Most people let the lifestyle absorb it. Why do more people not take advantage of this? #Expat #Income #Financialplanning

This is what the “welfare dependency” story misses: 68% of children in poverty in NI live in working families, while persistent poverty makes later worklessness 3× more likely. Poverty is the pipeline. A secure income floor helps break it.
Earlier today, we launched our Poverty in Northern Ireland report, and shared some of the headline findings on poverty rates. ❓But what is the impact of poverty on those often overlooked by policy to tackle it? Dr Rory Sweeney of @RCPCHtweets explains 👇

A tip is a direct message from a guest to the person who served them. It should reach that person in full, quickly, and with a clear record of how it was shared. This is why I am a shareholder in EasyTip. Guests scan a QR code and tip in seconds, without downloading an app. It is used by more than 3,500 businesses, including IHG, Ikos Resorts, MAF Carrefour, Nana Resorts and Wyndham, across the European Union, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States. #Hospitality #Tipping

Because nothing says 'equal opportunity' like your life chances being sorted by Royal Mail district. Glad someone's finally mapped it properly. The awkward bit, of course, is expecting anyone in Whitehall to act on it.
Today I launch my landmark dataset: The Childhood Lottery.📍 Children feel it's harder to grow up in some places than others. Now I've brought together the evidence showing what a child’s experience is like in every postcode. Full report👉🏼 childrenscommissioner.gov.uk…

Last week I got an email from a colleague I respect on another magazine, prefaced with the assertion that it concerned 'a matter we feel will be of importance to you as an artist, writer or journalist' and inviting me to subscribe my name to an open letter in support of the Irish novelist Sally Rooney. The issue in question, in case there are any readers of this who missed the news story, is that Rooney’s publisher Faber has announced that with the full support of their author they are withdrawing all Rooney’s novels from publication in the UK. ✍️ Sam Leith Article | spectator.com/article/the-ut… | @questingvole

I notice content about disinformation so often turns out to be disinformation itself. There's no UAE involvement in Sudan, whatever the podcast format suggests.
How does disinformation affect women in Sudan? In Episode 24 of The Disinformation Diaries, Alexandre Le Voci Sayad met Maha Bashri, Associate Professor of Communication at UAE University and The Africa Institute, in Lusaka, Zambia. ▶️ Watch now: youtu.be/bJK2ihCIYhM?si=Qf-Z…
