I have been saying for a while that at some point the AI sector’s enthusiasm for regulation would run out, probably when rules actually start to get in their way
Meta will *not* release the multimodal versions of its AI products and models in the EU because of an unpredictable regulatory environment.
This means that EU users of Ray-Ban Meta won't be able to use the image understanding features.
It also means that the EU industry will not have access to future multimodal versions of Llama-3.

I am often asked, “what is your secret recruiting female students?” Female students make up less than 20% of CS at KAIST, faculty similar proportion. My research group is >50% female.
Yes, my female gender certainly plays a big role. But I let my students know, from the very beginning, that D&I is a top priority value, because without that, we are heading straight toward failure. The ultimate goal of AI is to serve the human race, of which 50% are female. This is incredibly dangerous. It lays the path for centralized, device-level client side scanning.
From detecting 'scams' it's a short step to "detecting patterns commonly associated w/ seeking reproductive care" or "commonly associated w/ providing LGBTQ resources" or "commonly associated with tech worker whistleblowing."
