I do not believe it when Whitney blames his behaviors on the town. I think the town is at fault for certain things to a certain degree (pun) - like his vulnerability fear. But at the end of the day, his actions are his choice.
I also felt bad for myself and had a 'woe is me' mentality. Thinking 'if only I hadn't been hurt, poor me' when I should've been apologizing to friends who cried because of me. This too reminds me of Whitney!
I assume he feels that way towards himself as he blames the town.
