Receiving Holy Communion directly on the tongue is, in my opinion, advisable because it may help prevent accidents like the one shown in this video. Personally, I believe that receiving Communion on the tongue is a more traditional and reverent way of receiving the Body of Christ. Our hands may not always be clean, and handling the Sacred Host can risk leaving small particles behind, which could accidentally fall to the ground when we rub or wash our hands carelessly. But was receiving Holy Communion in the hand officially permitted by the Catholic Church? Yes, it was. On 29 May 1969, during the pontificate of Pope St. Paul VI, the Vatican issued Memoriale Domini, along with a letter commonly known as En réponse à la demande, addressing the reception of Holy Communion in the hand.
