Over the last two combined seasons, there are just three Big Ten receivers to have 100+ receptions for an average of 13+ yards per catch:
KJ Duff (Rutgers) - 102 rec, 17.9 ypc
Jeremiah Smith (Ohio State) - 139 rec, 16.9 ypc
Griffin Wilde (Northwestern) - 101 rec, 13.5 ypc

The one that surprises me is Flakes. He blocked the field goal on the last defensive snap of the game and appeared to be fine in the post-game press conference. 🤷♂️
I guess that loss to Rutgers was the final straw. This is no surprise, though. The surprise to me was bringing him back this season.

People figured 6-6, 275-pound Alex Honig would be Northwestern's inline blocking TE. Then Luke Dehnicke got hurt and Honig's role expanded. His sensational leaping catch vs. Ball State opened eyes to his potential. The NFL may be in his future.

OT @WyattVanBoening, the No. 59 player in the country for 2028, talked to me about his recent visit to Northwestern and explained where the Wildcats stand in his recruitment:

While Northwestern escaped with a thrilling win over Michigan State, their Class of 2027 and 2028 commits thrilled fans across the country -- including @N_Buirley5 and @n0rman_keny0n, who scored 5 TDs apiece.

Head coach David Braun talked about preparing for Rutgers, his fake punt call against Michigan State, parity in college football, inconsistent special teams and more at his weekly press conference.

Northwestern is ranked 24th and generating a lot of buzz as a surprising team this season.
So I looked back at my preseason game-by-game predictions.
At this point, I said Northwestern would be...5-1.

"This is the new norm...this is so much more like the NFL with its parity...you better show up every week ready at a super-high level. Because the second you get out of attack mode, you'll get yourself beat."

"For me to stand up here and say oh my gosh, Michigan State was unsound and we had them pegged, that's not the case. We felt with their aggression and their return we had an advantaged look."
