A new Duke University report underscores the position of disability advocates: non-law enforcement transport for involuntary commitment works well & should be the default, not the exception. #NCGA funding is key. #NCPOL @NASWNC @NAMINCarolina @NCPsychological @ncpsychiatry

It's been 61 years since the #MarchOnWashington. Surely progress has been made in the 6 decades since, but employment discrimination is far from extinct in the US. Formerly incarcerated people still face huge obstacles to finding stable employment – and it hurts everyone.

Pretrial algorithms are not a good alternative to cash bail. Racial disparities still exist. These algorithms rely on outdated and biased data, making Black individuals overrepresented in the high-risk category of pretrial release evaluations, despite having similar charges as their white counterparts. People should be treated as people with unique circumstances and backgrounds – not as statistical risks.

"By limiting the use of cash bail to exceptional cases, Detroit has joined more than a dozen other jurisdictions across the country that have reduced its reliance on cash bail. In not a single one of these jurisdictions has there been an uptick in crime." bailproject.org/policy/take-… Chief Judge William McConico has seen firsthand in Michigan’s 36th District Court, one of the busiest court systems in the country, that bail doesn't make communities any safer.
