Yggy is the Elizabeth Holmes of punditry. every day he wakes up is a do-over for him and he fundamentally doesn't accept that he needs to be held accountable for anything he's said or done before. it's a level of mendacity & self-belief you can't really break through
Hasan: "What does it say for your credibility on foreign policy issues if you've got the two biggest foreign policy issues of our lifetime, Iraq and Gaza, both wrong?" Yglesias: "I don't know that those were the two biggest foreign policy issues of our lifetime..."

There was a time in US history when this would have spelled the end of a presidential administration
The GRU hacked into Jared Kushner's iPhone. Dutch military intelligence (MIVD) then recruited a GRU spy who gave them access to the hacked phone. What MIVD discovered was that Kushner had access to two bank accounts --one Azerbaijani, the other Israeli --where Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Emirati ruler Mohammed bin Zayed deposited money. It sounds like a slightly far-fetched episode of "Slow Horses," but it's real. And it proves just how eye-poppingly corrupt this administration was and continues to be as its "special envoy" decides the fate of tens of millions in Europe in the Middle East. Simply incredible reporting by Matthew Cole, drawn from his new book on Kushner. vanityfair.com/story/jared-k…

“Major report”
What an extraordinary stance by Zack Polanski, appearing to dismiss a major report on antisemitism in schools and using it as an opportunity to attack the Board of Deputies.

The issue with Walzer has never been the in bello / ad bellum distinction, but a Eurocentrism that doesn’t let him accept that the invaded/attacked country is Palestine, not Israel so, ad bellum, the just cause was never the latter’s regardless of the former’s in bello violations
Michael Walzer published “Just and Unjust Wars,” an attempt to delineate the rights and wrongs of warfare in both its causes and its conduct, in 1977. In the nearly 50 years since, no other book on the subject has matched its influence. The precepts are not complicated: it is just to defend your country from an invasion and it is unjust to invade a country that has not attacked you—although Walzer does allow for exceptions, mostly for humanitarian causes. It is just to assume certain risks to avoid civilian casualties and it is unjust to bomb towns indiscriminately to compel an enemy to surrender. The justice of going to war—what philosophers call jus ad bellum—is separate from jus in bello, the justice of how a war is fought. The war in Gaza has made Walzer rethink one of the book’s fundamental principles. “The wall between jus ad bellum and jus in bello, which had sustained his theory for almost half a century, was no longer sturdy,” Jordi Graupera writes. As Walzer said to him, “There is a sense in which the carnage of Gaza, the ongoing carnage, simply made the war unjust.” Read about why a philosopher of war is now reconsidering his seminal work: newyorkermag.visitlink.me/T7…

Tapper wants to kill himself
“It was like this biblical battle where the Palestinian men … went in front of me to protect … me and my rescuers from being attacked again,” Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine told Jake Tapper. Levine was kicked, beaten with clubs and robbed by Israeli settlers while covering Friday’s olive harvest in the occupied West Bank, leaving her with multiple broken bones. Speaking after leaving the hospital, she said Israeli soldiers charged Palestinian farmers as settlers advanced alongside them. She said that unlike her, Palestinian victims endure these attacks daily, with absolutely nowhere safe to go.

Trying to understand why a prominent Tory party member organising contract killings isn’t being given wall to wall coverage. The BBC hasn’t even mentioned it on their site.
🚨🇬🇧 Turning Point UK's CEO was filmed offering an undercover reporter a menu of beatings, stabbings and killings through a Glasgow contact who says he arms the UVF Al Jazeera’s undercover operation started in 2021 when a reporter joined the British offshoot of the American student group. Its CEO Jack Ross, a Conservative candidate in 2023, introduced the reporter to Allan Nesbitt, a convicted criminal and self-described UVF member, agreed on camera to pay him to stage a fake pro-Zimbabwe rally, and priced out what Nesbitt’s friends could do to a person, from cutting faces to MURDER. The UVF is the Ulster Volunteer Force, a Protestant loyalist paramilitary from Northern Ireland’s Troubles that killed over 500 people between 1966 and 1999, including 33 in one day in the Dublin and Monaghan bombings, and is still banned as a terror group. Since the peace deal it has run mostly as a drug gang that kept the name and the guns. Nesbitt reportedly met the reporter in a London hotel, offered to have a fictional business rival “finished,” claimed he’d personally stabbed a man to death, showed a shotgun and pistol on a video call and said the fee would buy weapons smuggled from Scotland into Northern Ireland. Ross says it was a joke. The joke came with a price list, a weapons demo and a smuggling route, and the police now have a name and a video... and wasn't particularly funny. Somebody in Turning Point UK’s donor base should be asking when the fundraising dinners turned into this. Source: Al Jazeera / Writer: Daniel

Lots of boring, veiled racism from a thinker who has always been a professional dimwit acting like he doesn’t understand imperialism 101 but the best part is when Walzer admits the US lost in Afghanistan because (1/4)

Turning Point UK got caught working with right-wing paramilitaries willing to carry out assassinations on their behalf. Thankfully we’ve got nothing like that in the states.

When doctors keep giving you cognitive tests, it’s not because they’re testing to see if you’re in cognitive decline, it’s to measure the progression of your cognitive decline. Good job on the snake question, though, sir

Buried on page 30 of 'Sir' David Bellend's report into antisemitism in schools in the UK it explicitly says there hasn't been a rise in antisemitism, only in anti-Israel sentiment. Astonishingly fraudulent crisis/debate, all to shield a genocidal state

Truly insane
Only 5,000 kids were surveyed, only 92 were Jewish, only 70 of 92 responded, and 29 said they had faced antisemitism at school. Only 2% said antisemitism was a big problem at their school and we're reclassifying it as a more serious form of racism based on that? Is this a joke?
