Postgame, @JL_On_Hoops asked Coach Keefe about the sacrifice that Deandre Ayton had to make as a former first overall pick to come off the bench:
 “Yeah, he's been terrific.
His energy be terrific around the building since we've got him, it's contagious. You can feel them. This guy's a really good player. Came in, impacted the game right away. You could feel him with his physicality, his size. Obviously, you saw some of the offensive rebounding.”

Wizards get their first win of the season! Final score 128-116 Anthony Davis goes off for 34-12-4. Trae Young recorded 20-13. Kyshawn George scored 18. Anthony Davis' 34 points tied the most points by a Wizard in their first game with the team. He tied Antawn Jamison, who totaled 34 points in his Wizards debut on 11/3/04 at Memphis per Wizards PR.

Anthony Davis and Trae Young have logged double-doubles on opening night, the first duo to do so since Kyle Kuzma and Kristaps Porzingis on 10/19/22 at Indiana. Per Wizards PR #ForTheDistrict

The energy at Cap One is high right now!

Ayton is making some great plays right now in the fourth. Just drew the charge on Ware.

The Wizards take the lead 97-96 after a steal by Ayton leading to him getting a dunk off a pass from Champagnie.

What a debut so far from Anthony Davis! With his 10th rebound of the night, he has recorded a double-double and become the first Wizard to post a double-double in their debut since Marvin Bagley III had 20 points and 11 rebounds on 1/18/2024 at the Knicks. He is up to 30 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. Wizards are down going in the fourth 93-90.

The crowd is going crazy after AD’s and-1 jumper

Anthony Davis is cooking tonight

Halftime Anthony Davis leads Washington with 12 points and seven rebounds. Trae Young has 11 points and five assists. Bub Carrington has came off the bench and scored eight points. Wizards are not shooting in particular well at 41.9%. They are 3/17 from deep (17.6%).

Something I’m seeing. Champagnie already has six rebounds in nine mins of action. Straight hustle impact without scoring.

Carrington and Ayton are in to start the second quarter

After one, Wizards are up 25-23 AD has 10 first quarter points with six rebounds. Showing why he’s top 75 already. He has received MVP chants already.

4:16 in the first quarter, Anthony Davis is getting MVP chants

Anthony Davis and Kyshawn George are taking right into the Bucks defense

Middleton is getting ready subbing in as well. I’m surprised he is getting minutes this early in the game.

Champagnie and Johnson are the first subs off the bench

Young already has three assists, he just throw a nice lob to Sarr.

A lot of no call plays for the Wizards right now. They got to play through that and not let the officiating get to them.
