📣 Are you scheduled to work on election day in Ontario?
Ontario's municipal elections 🗳️ are next week: Monday, October 26, 2026.
Workers eligible to vote have the right to 3 consecutive hours off work to vote while polling stations are open. If you work on October 26 and don't have 3 hours off before polling stations close, you must be given paid time off to vote. While this time is typically at the start or end of your shift, your employer may decide which hours you take off to vote.
👉 Be sure to check your local municipal elections website to find out when your polls are open and to find a polling station near you.

ALT I WORK ON ELECTION DAY. MONDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2026 CAN I GET PAID TIME OFF TO VOTE? * If you are working and do not have a 3 hour window before or after your shift while polling stations are open, your employer must provide paid time off to make up the difference. * Ontario municipal election polling stations are typically open from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. * You cannot be punished or have your wages deducted for exercising this right. Example: If your shift is from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, then your employer must allow you to leave at 5:00 pm and pay you for the 1 hour difference. Questions about your rights on election day? THEY FOUGHT BACK. THEY WON.
LeBreton promised Adriana & Juan Pablo 30 hours/week. Instead, they went hungry and into debt while paying rent.
They sued and, after 3 years, won $11,500.

36 of 63 municipal candidates in Niagara-on-the-Lake, St. Catharines and Lincoln have signed the Migrant Worker Safety Pledge. Now they must act, no matter who wins the election.
Ontario must ensure safe housing, full labour protections and a coroner's inquest.

Migrant farmworkers are our neighbours. Looking out for them means standing with workers demanding change.

Today, we installed giant reflective signs along Niagara roads where migrant farmworkers have been killed or seriously injured. The signs light up in car headlights, marking the places where workers were simply trying to get home, buy groceries or visit friends.

⚠️ Are federal paid sick days under attack? ⚠️
Mark Carney quietly launched a new “review” of the Canada Labour Code protections for paid sick days for federal workers. There is a risk that the government will restrict or even cut the allotted sick days due to employer pressure.
