8th Draft of The Gun complete. 1st 11 chapters attached. Chapter 7 had a full re-write.
Lots of new stuff added to the rest of the novel. Really pleased with how it's looking. This has been a real labour of love since November.
Enjoy! Or not π

Night number 2 for Evie being an upstairs dog and hopefully they are finding a rythym. Ziggy is pack leader but he is getting used to how big his new pack member is. She sometimes sits on him accidentally which makes him grrrr but is also quite funny.
To see them both together like this is quite something.
Ziggy has only ever been on his own and has often had issues around other dogs.
He had 3 homes before my wife rescued him. He was an escape artist too and was very unsettled in the beginning.
We always hoped a younger female would be something he would at least tolerate.
He hasn't just done that, he has been a great little leader and shown her how living in a house works.
Much of Evie's progress is down to him.
Everyone is snoring so I should do same. Up early for dentist π
Total cuck move by James Acaster this evening. What a disappointment he turned out to be. Having said that you do expect celebs to act like big babys.
I watched it while doomscrolling, it's not the best traitors ever to be honest.
12:30am here. Evie preferring the floor tonight. She is so wonderfully weird. Been up and down the stairs like a yo yo. I was asleep but pain woke me so I got some meds. She followed me down and went out for a pee. She missed a meal today so gave her something. She ate it so nervously, kept spooking and running away.
Carpet is new and there is underlay so she must be comfortable I suppose.
Room for me to go over and lie down too π€£

Turns out the Labour government is baffled by the fact that Poundland, a company that sells high volume goods at rock bottom prices with very thin margins, might go bankrupt after theyβve continually increased their labour costs
Thatβs astoundingly cretinous
This is my dog. Her name is Evie. She is a foxhound cross (probably with a beagle). Have you met her? π€
I hate taking codeine because when I wrecked my rib last year I ended up addicted after 3 weeks and had a nasty 24 hour cold turkey withdrawal.
But chronic pain just wears you down. In desperation I took some 30mg codeine and 250mg naproxen 45 mins ago and it has brought my pain level down a good bit.
I'm convinced that running after Evie when she escaped while I had a Baker's cyst has absolutely done my knee in.
I remember thinking at the time "you are going to pay for this" but I was desperate to catch her.
And pay for it I am.
The knee aches even when not moving. I slow walked to the chemist earlier and the pain was shocking, but you still gotta move. The worse thing you could do is lie down.
I know some of you suffer from chronic pain almost all of the time. I don't know how you cope. I'm a month into this and it is taking a toll on my physical and mental health.
Thankfully the orthotics seem to be helping my plantar fasciitis which is being kind to me and taking a break for pissing me off with every step. I'll take what I can get.
The good news is I am off work until Wednesday. Doc is referring me to physio. If still not good by Weds I have to ring in again.
BLOODY KNEE π€¬

Evie update:
Sad news.
For ziggy π
Evie chose last night to move bedroom from under the stairs to our bedroom above the stairs. She lay too close to him and he took off in a huff and slept in the downstairs bedroom.
Now my wife feels bad but he's fine.
We'll work out this new bedding arrangement.
Looks like after nearly 6 weeks she is not a downstairs dog after all π€£
Here she is in his bed and ignoring her own π«£π€£

I have just witnessed a boat being launched from Belgium
Belgian authorities were there and did nothing. The boat was there for 15 to 20 minutes and was easy to to attack and destroy for authorities. They did nothing
Footage coming later
The Cost of Britain π¬π§
Here is the single MADDEST number in todayβs Budget - and the Chancellor didnβt mention it once in his speech π
From April, the National Living Wage rises to Β£13.21 an hour.
For a full-time 40-hour week, that is Β£27,477 a year.
Thatβs GREAT right?? π€
At the same time, todayβs Budget leaves the 40% Higher Rate tax threshold FROZEN at Β£50,270 right through until April 2031.
Do the maths on that:
In Britain today, earning just 1.8x the minimum wage now classes you as a Higher Rate taxpayer.
When the 40% tax band was created, it was meant for the top 3.5% of earners - bank directors and senior executives.
Today, a skilled tradesperson, experienced nurse, police sergeant or salaried worker earning 1.8x the legal minimum wage hands over:
β 42p of every extra pound to HMRC (40% Income Tax + 2% NI)
β 51p of every extra pound if they have a student loan
That single threshold freeze is quietly pulling an extra Β£34 billion a year out of working peopleβs pay packets - without the government ever having to announce a headline tax rise.
Pushing minimum wage up from the bottom
Whilst freezing the 40% tax trap at the top
How can earning 1.8x minimum wage possibly be classed as a βhigher earnerβ in 2026?
I know π

Thank you. That is what I think of us. The best and the worst. We could so easily be just the best. So many political things conspire to drag us back to the old, tragic days.
I have written another chapter of my second novel (The Second Monday) today, chapter 5.
I have introduced a new character, Noah. Noah is one of the finest snipers in the French Resistance (Calais branch) and that is notable because he is cross-eyed!
It is Noah's job to take out a searchlight at a German installation overlooking the English Channel. In the new chapter he does this in the background. I am thinking of giving him his own chapter to do this as he is so damn cool!
I asked ChatGPT to mock Noah up. It made me laugh. Meet Noah!
