President Trump has been accused of sexual assault by 27 women. Thought experiment: if ~96% of these women lied, he still would have sexually assaulted one woman.
Attacks on universities are calculated and political. JD Vance to conservatives at NCon ‘21:
“I think if any of us want to do the things that we want to do for our country…we have to honestly and aggressively attack the universities in this country.”

I wrote this article in 2019, which places the onus of today’s political turmoil squarely on the backs of US citizens. Still true today.

On March 18, 2025 the White House stated“President Trump believes that hiring in all parts of government should be based solely on merit” and that he “is restoring fairness and accountability in federal hiring, and terminating DEI across the federal government.”
Agreed.

@WritesofMurph just told a super cool story about middle schoolers doing antibiotic discovery from bacteria isolated from soil (or in one case, goose poop) @UICPharm. Nice work! 💩 🦠 #ICNPR2024
Wondering what you can do right now to support a woman’s right to affordable health care? Set up a monthly $20 contribution to Planned Parenthood @PPact. My male colleagues, I’m looking at you. weareplannedparenthoodaction…
Now is a good time to set up an automatic monthly contribution to Planned Parenthood @PPact. $20 a month will go a long way toward supporting affordable access to health care…

Our long history of individualism in the US sometimes works against us. How about this Christmas and beyond we focus on personal sacrifice and community wellness.
“Self-interest is self-defeating, and as long as its hosts ignore that lesson, the virus will keep teaching it.”
🚨Well, I wrote about Omicron--what we know & what it means.
I feel the core problem is unchanged: The variant poses a much greater threat at the societal level than the individual one, making it the kind of problem the US has consistently flubbed. 1/

Environmental microorganisms are a major source of bioactive #naturalproducts. @WritesofMurph and colleagues @thisisUIC @uni_tue now explore the distribution of biosynthetic genes from sediment across Lake Huron, finding surprisingly small overlap.

Fantastic primer on the legal limits of speech. Anyone marching who claims infringements on free speech rights, remember: Twitter and Facebook are private orgs, so they can regulate content. And not all speech is protected, such as threats and incitement. cnn.com/2021/01/12/politics/…
Historical note: Trump’s incitement of violence is not a last min meltdown. It’s consistent with his collusion with foreign govts, obstruction of justice, undermining a free press, caging of children, courting of white supremacist groups, and accusations of sexual assault.
Funny, I don’t recall Black Lives Matter protesters storming the Capitol building, trying to overturn results of a democratic election, and threatening United States Senators into lockdown.
I think there should be a maximum allowable income per year. This world would be a healthier, more equitable place.
There, I said it.

🚨I wrote the Atlantic’s next cover story on the COVIDization of science. No other disease has been scrutinized so intensely, by so much combined intellect, in so brief a time. This piece is about both the victories achieved & the weaknesses exposed. 1/
