We have reported a series of first-in-class inhibitors for YEATS domain proteins since 2018, including an ENL inhibitor in 2018, an AF9 inhibitor in 2020, and now the first YEATS2 inhibitor. This work is now published in @nchembio

Congrats to Shixian @Linlab_ZJU on this paradigm-shiftimg work. Unnatural amino acid incorporation using rare codons. Really COOL!!
🔊Check out our work in @ScienceMagazine. We identify a new weak point (TCG codon) in the codon table of mammalian cells and recode it into non-canonical amino acids (ncAAs) with impressive efficiency and selectivity. This strategy, rare codon recoding (RCR), is very different!
A new application of photo-ANA to interrogate tissue-specific protein-protein interactions is now published in PNAS.

I am honored to receive this recognition from HKU, where I studied and have served for more than 12 years😊
Congrats to Prof David Li (@XDavidLiLab1) from @HKU_Chemistry and Prof Stephanie Ma (@stephaniema912) from @hkusbms on being awarded this year's #HKU Outstanding Researcher Award for their exceptional research accomplishments!

A Must-Read thoughtful and comprehensive review from my colleague Xuechen @LiXuechen_HKU, a Master of Chemical Protein Synthesis!!
We put a lot of thinkings and efforts in this paper. Hope this will be useful to the peptide/protein chemistry community. "Precision in Protein Chemical Modification and Total Synthesis". authors.elsevier.com/a/1i8PB…
Reunion of Kapoor lab @KapoorLab_RU alumni @JeffTiLab @XDavidLiLab1 and collaborator @Hippo326 for hotpot in Hong Kong😁
Great to visit @TheCrick institute for the first HKU-Crick symposium together with many colleagues from @hkusbms @hkumed @hku_science. As the only chemist in the symposium, I am glad to learn lots of new frontier biology.
I am very honored to receive 2024 Tetrahedron Young Investigator Award for Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry.

Thanks to @TetrahedronChem for recognizing our works, and continuous support from @hku_science and @HKU_Chemistry
Chemical approach to deciphering tubulin 'code'. Beautiful work from @Beatfierz lab!
Our work w/ @Aumeier_Lab, @unige_en and many others @EPFL_CHEM_Tweet & @epflSV, out in @NatureChemistry, where we produce tubulins with defined PTMs and demonstrate that polyE primes MTs for detyrosination: nature.com/articles/s41557-0…; big congrats to 1st authors Eduard and Simon!
My students asked me "why only our names are selectively missed when our work is discussed in this article? Is it because that we are doing science in Hong Kong but not in the US?" @metricausa @naturemethods nature.com/articles/s41592-0…
I would like to share with you our new work on the identification of the first bona fide 'reader' of #histone H3K79 methylation, which has been a mystery since the discovery of this modification in 2002.

How long and how much it takes from idea to publication?
Here is my tale of three molecules that I designed more than 11 years ago.
Although it was a quite long and tough journey from idea to publication for these three molecules (in fact, for most of my projects), I still insist on not stopping at the proof-of-concept studies, but establishing robust and useful methodology to answer real biological questions
