Mucha fuerza, Lucas. ❤️🇦🇷

“Which Barcelona are we going to have when Messi decides to go home? That’s, for me, the big question. What next? That’s, for me, the big question.”
Jose Mourinho faced Lionel Messi throughout his career, from Chelsea to Inter Milan and Real Madrid. After years of trying to stop him, he had one word to describe him: GENIUS. 🐐
Jose Mourinho:
“What I can analyze is what I see. And what I see is a player who, during his career, went through a process. And that process was always based on, according to his qualities, how he could give the most to the team.
I was very fortunate because I was, let’s say, close throughout his entire career. In fact, the first match he played for Barcelona was a Porto-Barcelona match at the opening of Porto’s new stadium in 2004.
And then I played against him when I was at Chelsea, I played against him when I was at Inter, then I went to Madrid and I was in Madrid for three years, so I played against him many times, when he was coached by different managers, in different positions on the pitch.
And the only thing I can say is that, progressively, he was always better and better and better.
For me, ‘genius’… I think that’s the word you chose, and I think the word is correct. Genius.
Lots of work? I don’t know, I’m not there to see. A fantastic social life? It looks like it, yes. You don’t see, you don’t listen, you don’t read many things about Messi doing wrong in his personal life, in his social life. So it looks like everything together, plus very good teammates.
When he plays between the lines to get that pass from the center-backs, you get it from Piqué. You don’t get it from every center-back in Europe, even in some of the top teams.
When Messi is on the right and comes inside, the sprints that Jordi Alba makes on the left, and he plays a 70-meter pass, you do that because Jordi Alba makes that run 25 times every game.
The space that the striker opens for him, because you have Suárez.
When he plays on the right and comes inside and he doesn’t defend, he needs Rakitić behind him to close the space behind him.
So the team, and the teams he always had at Barcelona, were always good teams, with good players, with good coaching, and he was also supported by a fantastic situation.
But, you know, no more words about this guy. ‘Genius’ is the word for me.
And for me, a question that I asked the other day when I was on another television channel is the question that I’m going to keep for some time:
Which Barcelona are we going to have when Messi decides to go home?
That’s, for me, the big question. What next? That’s, for me, the big question.”

“I cannot foresee, but I can observe the game, see what’s going on, see where we can cause damage or be damaged ourselves. That’s what I try to see as fast as I possibly can.”
Messi sat across from Zane Lowe and broke down how he actually sees the game, and it was the opposite of the mystical version people usually invent for him. He didn’t claim to predict the future or see three moves ahead like some chess grandmaster. He said he just watches what’s unfolding in real time and tries to process it as quickly as possible so he can put himself and his teammates in the right spots. The way he described it was simple, almost understated, which is exactly why it landed the way it did.
He talked about how his role changed over the years. Early on he was out wide, then he drifted inside, and at certain points he had the freedom to move wherever the game needed him. That freedom never meant he was just freelancing. He said his only real objective was always the same: get into the opponent’s half and try to finish, whether that was with a pass or a goal. Everything else was about creating space for himself and for the people around him so those chances actually arrived.
The part that sticks is how he framed the difference between seeing ahead and simply reading what’s already happening. A lot of players talk about vision like it’s some special gift that lets them control the outcome before it occurs. Messi described it as constant observation, scanning for the openings and the dangers as they appear and reacting fast enough to take advantage. That version of it feels more human and, in a way, more impressive. He wasn’t born with a crystal ball. He just learned.
Over two decades of doing this at the highest level, how to process the game faster than almost anyone else ever has. And even now, he still talks about it like he’s just trying to stay one step clear of the chaos instead of claiming he can control it.

❤️ Joe Hart on the nightmare of facing Lionel Messi and the unforgettable experience of playing against MSN at the Camp Nou:
Joe Hart: “You know the worst thing about him as a goalkeeper was… I’d go in goal and as it got narrowed down, I’d want to make it as difficult as I possibly could.
You’d have to give them something. Because it was always in your advantage in a 1v1 or whatever. He’d always take the hardest one on and take it on with the most calmness.
So if I would, I would give him the cutback rather than, and block the goal big, he’d cut it back calmly. And if I gave him the far post and said: ‘You’re gonna have to beat me at the far post.’ I’d just see the ball cruise past me in the far corner.
And that was quite disheartening when you play against players like that, but it also brings the best out in you.”
Micah Richards: “But you had one of your best games against Messi, though.”
Joe Hart: “Yeah.”
Micah Richards: “I remember that game, you were on fire! I think you got Man of the Match in the home leg for sure.”
Joe Hart: “And then in the Camp Nou, to play against Messi, Neymar, and Suárez as a trio… and it was, honestly, it was like going back to my school days of just absolutely…
I didn’t care about the Champions League, I didn’t care about the people in the stadium. It was just about being a kid in goal playing against the best.
And it was, it was a magnificent night and one I’ll never, ever forget.”

😂 Juan Mata recalls how Messi single-handedly destroyed Valencia and reveals why Barcelona had to make him play for BOTH teams in training to keep things balanced.
Juan Mata:
“So, I remember one game, Valencia vs. Barcelona. We were 0-0, 70 minutes in at the Camp Nou, which is good.
And then, suddenly, he decided to win the game. So, 3-0, a hat-trick in ten minutes. And he took the ball home.
And then, the next day, it’s a different day. So, you hear so many things, not only from the games that you see, but from training, and the way he played in every position in small games.
Because if he plays on one team, that team wins for sure. So they played him as a joker, so he played for both.
They put a yellow bib on him, so the training was balanced.”

🚨🎙️ Harry Kane on the letter he received from Lionel Messi after winning the Ballon d’Or.
Harry Kane: Honestly, it’s one of those things I’ll never forget for the rest of my life. Immediately after I was crowned the winner, I noticed a notification on my phone. I didn’t think much of it because I assumed it was probably my family congratulating me. But when I checked, I realised it was a message from Lionel Messi himself.
🎙️Reporter: What was the Message about ?
🗣️Harry Kane:He wrote, “Congratulations, Harry, on your Ballon d’Or. You’re the best in the world, and there’s no doubt you deserved it by miles. I might not be there to celebrate with you, but trust me, my kids and family are here celebrating you. Looking back at your career from the beginning, you’ve given so much to football, and you’ve shown everyone what hard work can achieve.”
Honestly, reading those words made me emotional. We’re talking about Lionel Messi, the greatest player of all time, taking the time to personally congratulate me on winning football’s biggest individual award. I don’t think people understand how much that means to me.
Reporter: What was your response to him?
Harry Kane: I told him how much his message meant to me and thanked him for taking the time to send it.
I told him I would cherish those words forever because, honestly, it felt like receiving another special individual award.
That message will be framed and placed right inside my award cabinet. Years from now, when I look back at my career, I might forget certain matches or even some of the goals I scored, but I’ll never forget the day Lionel Messi congratulated me on winning the Ballon d’Or. (laughs)

A 14-year-old missed both of his free throws in his first pro game, so the other team fouled him again on purpose just to give him another shot.
His name is Paris Klontzaris. He was born in January 2011, so a kid his age in America would've been finishing eighth grade. His Greek club, Maroussi, put him into an overtime game against Aris back in May 2025 with 43 seconds left, down 114-108, with no comeback coming. That made him the youngest player the Greek league has ever had, at 14 years, 4 months and 1 day.
He grabbed a rebound almost right away and got fouled. Then he walked to the line in front of a full crowd and missed both.
So Aris, the team about to win, fouled him again on purpose and sent him right back up there. He made one this time. The score went to 114-109 and nobody scored after that, which means the last point of a pro overtime game was an eighth grader's free throw that the other team handed him.
Aris was up six with seconds to go, so giving away a point cost them nothing. And now his first line in the record books has a 1 in it. Pull up his stats today and you'll see 1 point, 1-of-4 from the line, 0.7 minutes played. That's going to follow him for the rest of his career, and the 1 is there because grown men on the other team decided he deserved it.
European clubs have been putting teenagers on men's teams for decades. They sign kids at 12 or 13, raise them in their own academies, and nothing in the rules keeps a 14-year-old off the senior roster. Ricky Rubio played in Spain's top league at 14 and went fifth in the 2009 NBA draft. Luka Doncic joined Real Madrid's academy at 13 and was playing for the first team at 16.
The NBA won't let anyone into the draft until the year they turn 19. In the American system, Klontzaris would be a high school sophomore right now, four years from even being allowed to put his name in.
There's money behind all of this too. When one of these kids makes it to the NBA, the club that raised him usually collects a buyout on the way out the door. That's why a 14-year-old sitting on a pro bench is normal over there.
None of that explains what Aris did in those last 43 seconds, though. The game was over and they still went out of their way to make sure a kid on the other team didn't go home with a zero.
