The main difference? Reform made starter houses viable again. That means more housing, on less land, at a lower price point. No one had done it better than Portland.

Love empowering staff to call it as it is! @axios Housing Conference
No reform would do more for affordability and workforce housing. North Carolina had a similar bill in 2021 (SB349) killed by planner and government-lobby organizations.

Opening to the first page of International Building Code and you'll never guess what I saw.
The @triblogblog liveblog of Chapel HIll's #housing debate is pretty interesting:
There seems to be fewer young people. So many of the comments are "I want my kids to be able to afford to live here", which is not a pro-housing testimony you hear a lot.

2) appraisers consistantly undervalue porches, discouraging their construction.

The very fact that there are “housing advocates” or “YIMBYs” is a symptom of a very deep problem. Something so universal and basic should not require this level of advocacy or particular identification. That, at bottom, is our housing problem.

Marin is proposing to get rid of the word “single-family” in their R-1 zoning code due to its discriminatory effort but not actually upzone any R-1 parcels.
