"Altman told TIME after the talk that OpenAI was preparing, in 2024, to begin making public interventions on the topic of wealth redistribution, in much the same way that it is currently doing on AI regulatory policy. 'We’re going to try,' he said. 'That’s kind of a next-year project for us.' OpenAI is currently carrying out a 5-year study into universal basic income, he said, which will conclude next year. 'That’ll be a good time to do it,' Altman said." Interesting. Looks like @sama is going to start pushing for Congress to implement #UBI next year after his big pilot's results are made public. time.com/6282325/sam-altman-…

It is so frustrating to watch a discussion about the child tax credit and see Republicans embrace universality but with a work requirement, and Democrats embrace unconditionality but with targeting. Why do Republicans insist on punishing poor kids for having unemployed parents and why do Democrats insist on making the poor jump through hoops to prove they aren't rich? Just stop it. Embrace both universality AND unconditionality. No means-testing. No work requirements. Just get money to families for their kids, and use taxes to reverse-target the rich. We are spending over $1 trillion a year on the downstream costs of child poverty. It makes no sense to withhold $10 from a poor kid only to spend $100 on them as an adult. It also makes no sense to withhold $10 from a rich kid when you tax their parents $100 more. A monthly universal child allowance plus progressive taxes is the way to go. Then also do #UBI for adults for the same reasons using the same design principles.

"So basically the gains from using AI, you’re not necessarily going to get a raise from your super AI-enhanced work. All that extra productivity is just  going to benefit the company that employs you. And these companies, now that their workers are getting so much done, well, they can fire some of their staff—or a lot of their staff." No mention of unconditional basic income in this discussion. These are exactly the discussions that need to include UBI. scientificamerican.com/podca…

"The problem with AI is not the technology. The problem is not even the technology’s potential effect on the labor market. The problem is that we do not have any policies in place to support workers in the event that AI causes mass job loss. The good news is that we do not need to invent them. Say hello to the universal basic income, a 500-year-old policy idea whose time has perhaps finally come." archive.ph/fyYKI

Saying something is inevitable can give the impression that you don't need to do anything in order for it to happen. If you think #UBI needs to happen, then please get actively involved. Even just making a point to share and retweet pro-UBI stuff regularly is helpful. @UBIToday
Universal basic income seems inevitable at this point.

It’s not necessarily that people want to work less, it’s that they want the freedom to do work of their own choosing, under their own direction. Much of my free-time I spend working on my own projects and hobbies. People aren’t lazy, they just want to contribute freely.
UKs 4 day work week study in a nutshell: •Worker stress levels dropped by 39% •Sick days plummeted by 65% •Burnout rates fell by 71% •Staff resignations dropped by 57% •62% reported a positive impact to their social lives Imagine that. People are happier when we work less.

Work history requirements leave 1 in 3 women ineligible for parental leave benefits. As always, conditions and non-universality meant to get help to only certain people leaves many people unreached that the program is meant to reach. Universal basic income will reach 3 out of 3.

A recipe for misaligned incentives: Take 1 ICE SUV Add $2,500 of batteries (for a whopping 21 miles of electric range) Get a $7,500 subsidy (Meanwhile a true EV SUV with 15x the range and more cargo capacity doesn’t qualify because it’s not “SUV enough”)
The car on the left has a gas engine and gets 20 MPG. It has 21 miles of electric range. It gets a $7,500 EV Tax Credit. The car on the right is ELECTRIC ONLY and gets 113 MPEe. It has 330 miles of range. IT DOES NOT GET A $7,500 EV TAX CREDIT.

Sean Hannity just said under oath about Trump's voter machine conspiracies "I did not believe it for one second" and yet, he continued to spread this misinformation anyways. He thinks so low of his own audience that he has no fears admitting he's a propagandist and a chaos agent.

This. Everyone knows there are serious problems with capitalist media. Profit incentives are majorly corrupting. But only fools react by rejecting MSM to BLINDLY embrace randos on the internet who have even WORSE incentives and LESS oversight. The solution is more complex.

Elon slowly realizing, one issue at a time, all the reasons that the “free speech absolutism” he claimed to believe in is nonsense. He is slowly coming around to supporting all the restrictions he formerly railed against, almost like he didn’t think it through at all 🤔
