I really cannot believe they got outhomered by that team.
Figured they could lose the series, sure, but no shot they’d get outhomered and swept.
Anyways, here’s my offseason blueprint. I’m too tired and angry to defend it right now but it’s here.

The funniest part is that all of the hitters who are pro-data are either rookies, a catcher, or have been good hitters in their career.
This makes sense to me on top of how Matt Blake has a background in Cleveland (analytics heavy), considering how nerdy Gerrit Cole/Max Fried (the vets of their staff) like to get with their arsenal. Have to give Carlos Rodon an enormous amount of credit here too for the buy-in after taking a fat wad of cash and accepting the changes the org was trying to make. Same with Ryan Weathers (minus the cash).
The vets of the position player staff over the years on the other hand (Judge, Stanton, Rizzo, etc..) don’t seem like numbers guys haha. I think the buy-in as time goes on will get better considering how entrenched in data young hitters and MiLB players already have to be as they develop.
Ben rice
George Lombard
Austin wells
Anthony Volpe
Spencer jones
I think the buy-in from that crop is probably a lot better.
It’d be pretty funny if Hal was that vocal about offensive disappointment and the Yankees in turn run back the same hitting coach.
With Teruaki Sato’s transfer to MLB incoming, I’m very curious to see what orgs are interested in his high risk profile. There’s been some comps to Murakami in the Thump+K% department, but Sato chases at a far higher clip without the extreme BB rates.

Brewers have just been relentless man.
Such a different group from last year in terms of approach and mentality.
Very fun to watch.
This chart was from the article but man, DRS loved the Yankees shortstops in 2026.
New words out: first of a few pieces this offseason evaluating the homegrown Yankees’ rookies. This one centers around George Lombard Jr.

Tons of credit to @YankeesFocus who put together an excellent tweet with underlying data on Teruaki Sato and other recent position players who've come over from the NPB.
Great follow for forward-thinking baseball information and data visualization.

From September 12th, 2026 through the end of the American League Division Series against Tampa Bay.
Ben Rice led the major leagues in xwOBA (.437). Ended the season on deck btw!
Also, George Lombard Jr. ranked 7th (.375).
He will be 29 at the start of next season.
The best outcome on this list for a player in that age range is Adolis Garcia, who in his next five seasons posted wRC+ of:
2022 — 112
2023 — 128
2024 — 94
2025 — 83
2026 — 63
Profile is volatile at best.
2026 Jazz Chisholm Jr. is a scary offensive profile for teams to bet on given combo of QOC + bat to ball skills.
Since 2015, only 23 hitters with ≥ 450 PA, ≤ 80.0% Z-Contact, and ≤ .300 xwOBA.
I do not expect much interest from the Yankees.
Teruaki Sato will be a name to watch for the upcoming MLB offseason.
Just won the NPB Triple Crown in 2026.
Here’s how he stacks up compared to other hitters making the jump from the NPB to MLB in recent years (final 2 seasons before posting).

Since 2021, the Yankees have been in the bottom 10 in Z-Con% every year except one, 2024.
