When we introduced the marketplace into neurodevelopmental assessments, something fundamental shifted. When there is a profit to be made from convincing people they might be autistic or have ADHD, then we are all at risk of overmedicalisation. It is in the interest of private providers to expand their audience. Once the demand is there, the incentives are to carry out assessments as cheaply as possible. And that can mean poor quality assessments leading to life long diagnoses. bmj.com/content/395/bmj-2026…

@Channel4’s #TheExperiment how do I explain it in a nutshell? A documentary: If the UK politicians and mainstream media don’t learn from Aktion T4 despite demonising disabled people by cutting welfare today… we are going to end up like Nazi Germany! #DisabilityJustice

Yes, and most people have NO idea (even if they knew that the Nazis killed disabled Germans) that they were the first victims of the death camps.

Just watched "The Experiment" on @Channel4 with @sophmorgTV and @mat_fraser. Thought it was good, and I'd recommend it for a watch. I confess that being #disabled myself gives a particular viewpoint, as I've studied Nazi philosophy toward us, and the events of the Aktion T4 project. I want to be surprised that it took so long for some of the visitors to the "SegriLife" centre to realise how shockingly cruel it was, but I can't. So much of the narrative today was reflected in the propaganda, and that showed in the reactions of the visitors in the tour of the faux care centre. The problem is that no-one watching it will be the kind of person who espouses the idea that disabled people are second class citizens, and a burden on the state. You can point out the alarming direction in which attitudes toward we disabled are growing dangerously close to Nazi ideologies, but you can't use a programme they won't watch to change their minds. Still, we must fight on, because not many are willing to help us.

#C4TheExperiment is why disabled people pushed back at assisted dying. History is already repeating itself a century along and if it’s made legal who knows where it’ll end.

Watching #TheExperiment & seeing the impact on Mat hits home. As someone else who was born disabled, we probably wouldn't even be counted amongst the disabled people killed by the Nazis. We wouldn't have made it past being born. We'd have been medical refuse.

I’m watching this rn and this is super misleading. It’s a social experiment and disabled people aren’t experiencing the conditions it’s just to see if people accept/agree with the conditions and allow it to happen

There were at least some innovative new proposals referenced for cutting the care costs for disabled people who can't look after themselves. Let's not dismiss it out of hand.

This is an incredibly misleading, disingenous, and bad faith headline that misrepresents a show - led largely by disabled people and aiming to highlight ableism in the UK - trying to push back on the increasingly sinister rhetoric pushed by right-wingers. Terrible journalism.

Less than a third of the “public” were expressing concerns at the facility initially. That is positively frightening where we are at as a society. How little people actually know disabled people or care enough to question. Horrifying. I really hope people watch it and learn!
