We are living in very weird times. I'm glad that someone has apparently learned something very important about theoretical physics, and that OpenAI is sharing it with a few respected physicists, but why can't the rest of us see it?
Announcing three major scientific discoveries, one each in mathematics (harmonic analysis), computer science (complexity theory), and physics (quantum field theory). AI starting to help us improve our understanding of the universe! openai.com/index/building-sc…

Although questions remain about how to assign credit (or blame), this is both a very important result, clearly deserving of math's highest honor (either to the OpenAI team or to someone whose results they used), and evidence of an ongoing revolution in scientific methods.
We’re sharing a solution to the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize Problem, one of the deepest problems at the frontier of mathematics. The proof was produced by a group of agents, using an OpenAI next-generation model significantly more capable than GPT-6 Astra. The problem concerns whether the description of smooth three-dimensional fluid motion modeled by the Navier-Stokes equations can break down. It has remained unresolved for roughly 90 years.

Georgia Tech put together a great report on the college of science's accomplishments over the previous academic year. I'm proud our work appears in a number of places throughout. cos.gatech.edu/system/files/…

Be sure to follow @Sci4GA and be on the lookout for this upcoming release! Two things I want to say: 1/3
We have been sitting on a very special video debut premiering next Monday as we begin to reflect on our achievements of 2022! Join Daniel S. Sussman and Sci4Ga's Director of Advocacy, Michael Czajkowski, as they guide us through a journey of discovery on the mystery of ice cream!

Congrats, Bolei!
Our new paper on Advanced Materials: doi.org/10.1002/adma.2022062…, where we proposed a robust method (neural network + evolutionary strategy) to inverse design nonlinear responses of metamaterials. This is also my first paper as a corresponding author ☺️
Honored and humbled to receive the Fellow award from SES yesterday evening. Congrats to the TAMU organizers - great event! @SocEngScience @TAMU @TAMUEngineering @EPrinceton @Princeton @GeorgiaTech

Beautiful microscopic pictures. Glad this fierce-looking ant doesn't know what we do to ants in the name of research. theatlantic.com/photo/2022/1…

Even more impressive because this is quantum work, so if his h is 29, his hbar is less than 5.
Just a quick reminder that you can win a Nobel with an h-index = 29 (according to the usually inflated google scholar). Quantitative measures of scientific output are not the way to go to a bright future for humanity.

Pretty stoked about the Svante Paabo Nobel. His team's work has led to many jaw dropping reads for me over the years, bringing us that much closer to ancient humanity. Also, very cool to see evolutionary biologists getting recognized by the committee!
BREAKING NEWS: The 2022 #NobelPrize in Physiology or Medicine has been awarded to Svante Pääbo “for his discoveries concerning the genomes of extinct hominins and human evolution.”
