youtube changed the monetization requirements recently for its creators
it's now simultaneously so much harder to reach monetization on youtube and to maintain monetization on youtube on shorts ("creators who have 10 million qualified Shorts views over the last 90 days will be eligible for ads and subscription revenue sharing on Shorts. Channels below this threshold remain in YPP and continue earning on long-form content, with Shorts revenue sharing automatically resuming once they cross 10 million views again.")
lots people stopped posting shorts on a platform that doesn't care about them and move to other platforms which are easier to be monetized on (oh, hey facebook, what's up)
and now here we are
YouTube just launched a Shorts bonus program. I got invited.
Here's how it actually works:
β Post 12+ public Shorts a month
β Hit that and you get a guaranteed base payment
β Then a bonus on top based on your engaged Shorts views
The rundown:
β’ Invite only. No application. Check the email tied to your YouTube and your Studio inbox
β’ Accept in Studio by Nov 15 to start earning in November
β’ Quota resets every calendar month. Miss it, no payout that month
β’ Only organic views count. Promoted views don't
β’ You have to still be monetized at the end of the month
β’ Paid with your normal AdSense, around the 21st to 26th of the next month
What doesn't matter:
β’ Notify subscribers on or off. It just has to be public
β’ Nothing says you can't clip your own long-form, including YouTube's built-in "Edit into a Short"
What does:
β’ Your own content only. Normal YPP rules
β’ Don't spam near-identical clips. YouTube is cracking down on low-effort repetitive stuff. Not worth losing monetization over a bonus
12 Shorts a month is 3 a week. If you already make long-form, you're sitting on your quota.

There are a lot of downsides to being a vtuber but one that chafes at me a bit is the expectation of doing covers/concerts that come with it π like babes, I CANNOT sing. It is so glaringly outside of my abilities.
If I ever did a cover, itβd 100% be something that is silly and doesnβt require me to be an opera singer.
A LOT of viewers ask when the first Zavvy cover is coming out, and ik itβs simple curiosity and it doesnβt really upset me at them. But it does make me feel like this is one huge aspect of vtubing that I will always be a failure at, no matter what.
