I believe that every artist is in their own right to price their works how they see fit. I’m not looking to change that, but I do want to offer my own perspective. I have removed commercial fees from my listings. Yes, even for corpos. I do not enforce corpo fees. I do this for two reasons. One, I’ve seen how much creators actually make and I personally feel I would rather support creators than tax them extra to create. Working backend for creators in management and support has shown me that most creators don’t retain a large enough budget to really justify the amount spent on marketing. What this means, to me, is the majority of art creators purchase does actually come from a place of personal desire. They get art because they think it looks cool. I want to support that. Two, I hate thinking that someone got a work from me that they couldn’t show off. I have pieces I have purchased for ‘personal use’ and they go into a little folder that the few times I’ve been able to show friends, my friends gush about how cool it is and where they can find the artist. Sometimes I do this because I purely could not afford the commercial fees but still want to support the artist and see what they create. My life online, however, exists primarily on social media. That is where I would share the works. I don’t want to accidentally overstep an artists boundaries if a post were to go viral. I have more reasons, but these are probably the two biggest ones. That being said, I do not hesitate to pay other artists’s commercial fees because, as I said, I believe we all hold the right to charge what we think is fair. I’ve also just become more lax on pricing overall. If someone dms me and says something like “fable I want to get this work with you but I can’t afford it” I usually work with them to get them a product in their budget. I want to support creators who support real artists.
