ALT Vermont Yankee closed at the end of 2014. The 600 MW plant had been generating about 5 TWh a year of firm power. It was largely replaced by natural gas. Sanders supported the shutdown. The posts that cite European heat deaths treat additional nuclear and reliable generation as the problem to limit. The limit is what reduces the electricity available to run air conditioning. One plant does not explain deaths on another continent. The local result of closing it is still less firm power in the region that lost it.
