🚨NEW: Fleetwood boss reveals what Mikel Arteta did in the tunnel following Arsenal’s defeat.
🗣️🎙️“I just can’t believe it, We’ve managed to beat the champions.” their boss Matt Lawlor told Sky Sports afterwards.
Lawlor revealed that Arteta congratulated him personally in the tunnel after the game.
🗣️🎙️“He shook my hand two or three times and he was really, really gracious,” Lawlor said. “I can imagine it’s a really disappointing night for him. But the way that he acted there, with class, is amazing.
“I would love to catch up with him and pick his brains but he’s been really busy with media and all the emotions that come with it. We’ve not managed to cross paths but he said well done in the tunnel briefly and how well we did, which is obviously a show of class from him.”
Arteta would have been furious, but he showed class by congratulating Fleetwood after the game and praising the incredible atmosphere their fans created.
🚨NEW: Dermot Gallagher gives his verdict on Arsenal’s appeal against Max Dowman’s red card.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Dermot was asked whether Arsenal have a realistic chance of winning their appeal against Dowman’s red card.
🗣️🎙️“I don’t actually,” he said. “I don’t because of the sheer nature of the aggressiveness of Dowman, and you can see the intent. He’s going to retaliate. So I think it will fail, to be honest.”
“He knows what he’s doing,” he said of Dowman. “He almost brings his knee up, his thigh… almost in a kicking action. And that’s why I think it’s dissimilar to Palmer’s, in so much as Palmer uses almost his torso, his body.”
He did acknowledge that decisions like this fall into a grey area, admitting he had spoken to people who felt it wasn’t a red.
“It’s an impossible question to answer,” he said. “Both of them have split opinions… It did [meet the threshold] for that referee on that day.”
Gallagher also believes Neal should have been punished for his challenge, echoing the concerns raised by many Arsenal fans.
“Although he gets the ball, I think it’s a case where he gets the ball, but he’s too aggressive,” he said. “I think it’s a reckless challenge because he’s had little regard for the safety of Dowman… I think that’s enough for a free kick and a yellow card.”
🚨NEW: Arteta reveals what he told Max Dowman as the youngster walked down the tunnel after being sent off.
Mikel Arteta responds to claims that Max Dowman is being ‘targeted’.
🗣️🎙️“When we prepared the context of the match, we were very clear on the things to expect, the things that emotionally we have to dominate.”
Reporter🗣️ “What did you say when he went down the tunnel?”
Mikel Arteta: “Something we discussed before the game.”
Gooners, what do you think Arteta said to Max Dowman on his way down the tunnel?
🚨📰 Arteta makes a big demand of Max Dowman ahead of the Everton clash.
Asked whether Saturday would be the right time to give Dowman a chance, Arteta confirmed the youngster will play a part:
🗣️🎙️“Well, it is something inevitable, is to go back to that memory and the feeling of the moment,” Arteta said.
“And that’s with us, and that he is going to stay in that stadium for a long, long time, I think. And he’s training, and every time he’s got a moment to play, he’s showing that he’s a player that is going to impact the game. So for sure he’s going to have minutes.”
Arteta agrees that giving Max Dowman his first start against Everton would be a fairytale moment.
🗣️🎙️“It would be a great story, yeah, if we win the game especially. And, obviously, he’s going to be more important as well if Bukayo is out.”
Gooners, with Saka injured, would you like to see Max Dowman get some minutes against Everton?
