College athletics has changed. Tradition still matters, but teams are building their rosters year after year. Some seasons will be up, some down. As Lou Holtz said (& I’m adapting) “nothing is as good or as bad as it seems. The truth usually falls somewhere in the middle.”
It’s such a blessing to work in a career field where you get to make an impact on young adults, but at the same time, it’s a responsibility that should never be taken lightly. The influence we have extends far beyond the classroom, the court, or the playing field. We have the opportunity to shape mindsets, build character, instill discipline, and help prepare them for life beyond sports.

Grades are recruiting too. Talent can get a coach interested, but academics can determine whether they can actually recruit you. Handle your business in the classroom.
One of the biggest obstacles to growth is the inability to honestly acknowledge where we currently stand. You cannot improve what you refuse to recognize. Growth begins when you are willing to be honest with yourself about your strengths, your weaknesses, and the areas where you still need work. You cannot get to where you want to be until you are willing to acknowledge where you are.
Wow! The volleyball team replaced my candy bowl! 👏🏾😂 They know they’re the main ones taking candy out of it, so they came through and restocked me with a bunch! I guess they figured they better keep their candy supply going!lol
One thing I wish more student-athletes understood is that your journey is not supposed to look like everyone else’s, and that’s okay. Some people will get more playing time, some will get recruited sooner, some will transfer, and some will take a completely different path. You can’t measure your progress by someone else’s timeline. Focus on what you can control, put in the work, take care of your academics, and keep showing up for yourself. Someone else’s success doesn’t mean you’re falling behind. Your journey is your own, and the sooner you learn to embrace that, the better off you’ll be.

The UIL approved a mandated 35-second shot clock for basketball starting in 2028-29 school year for 6A and 5A, with other classes to adopt it in following years. 6A and 5A schools would have the option to use it in the 2027-28 school year.

Athletes‼️‼️
You can’t carry the title of student-athlete and completely forget the student part. Being an athlete may get you noticed, but your education is what you’re investing in for life beyond the game!
Athletics is an opportunity. Education is part of the purpose.
Never forget that you’re a student first, an athlete second, and a person with a future that extends far beyond your playing days.
