We have no idea the relationship Jason Eck has with that kid, or prior interactions that may have lead to this. That’s holding a young man to a higher standard, sometimes we get heated but that’s to show just how important the message is!
Jason Eck is the FUTURE

"What we've created is rat poison on steroids." Nick Saban talking about the current landscape of college football from a coaches perspective. " If you don't have intensity, you can't maintain focus, you can't really play with discipline, you don't play smart, and all these things lead to inconsistency in performance. It's different between wanting something and being committed to it, and I think we have a lot of conditional commitments to teams now in college sports. Guys are worried about how much money they make. I talked to one coach who's on a bye week this week. He says he's talking to agents, all week instead of focusing on coaching his team. So really what we've created is rat poison on steroids in terms of guys' ability to be able to stay focused and lock on what's important to having good performance and lock out things that affect the performance."

I've had a couple of days to reflect on this season. From the outside, it was another winless year for Cortland. From the inside, real steps were taken to make this program healthy again. There was a new feel this season. No matter the score, these kids fought every snap they took the field. We finished with only 4 seniors, 6 juniors, 8 sophomores and 8 freshmen, and an average age around 15. That's not an excuse. It's proof of how tough this young group was, and a reason to be excited. They come back older, smarter and more disciplined. A lot of our growth happened between the ears. Our guys learned to handle adversity, stay composed and keep competing. We also stayed far healthier than last year, which is proof the work in the weight room is paying off. In year 2, we took a major leap in culture. Winning starts with culture, and the foundation is in place. Seniors, thank you for leading a young locker room. Staff, parents and boosters, thank you for supporting these kids through every rep of this rebuild. Better days are ahead for Cortland. If you believe in what we're building, you're welcome here. If not, we're moving forward either way. Time to heal up, get stronger and keep building something Cortland hasn't seen in a long time. #BelieveOrLeave #BuiltForTheHunt

Hey Coaches, Someday, someone else will have your job. They’ll sit in your office, wear your gear, and lead the program you once called yours. That’s not meant to diminish the importance of your work. It’s simply a reminder that we’re all replaceable professionally. But there are roles in your life that nobody else can fill. Your children only have one you. Your spouse only has one you. Don’t become so consumed with being excellent in a role that someone else can eventually fill that you neglect the roles that only you can fulfill. I’m all for pursuing excellence in your profession. But just make sure you're bringing that same commitment to the roles that only you can fulfill.

This year was a year filled with promise due to a senior heavy group, Then life happened! Any injury or bad thing off the field that could disrupt a team took place. Throughout this year our kids have had to continue to overcome and show up ready to work no matter what is going on. And every day there they are ready to attack the day. I got a text from a coach I know who asked “ you’re miserable this year aren’t you?” Not a how you are doing or anything. It got me thinking about some things about coaches and how we operate. My response was not what that coach expected. Our record is our record and we own it. But truthfully this has been a fun year in terms of loving our kids and getting to know them. This is a great group of kids who do things right even if the scores haven’t been in their favor. As a coach that’s all I can ask for. A record won’t dictate how hard I work for my kids or how much I care. God gave me the tools I have to be at programs that need that care and Corazon for kids. I may never coach in a State Championship game, but every game we’ve won at our place we’ve been the underdog. And that expression on my kids faces after every win is worth it. For our school, we’ve done a lot of winning the last 5 years. That may sound crazy to some, but unless you’ve laced your shoes up with us you wouldn’t understand. Love what you do and those who work hard for you!

Kenny Dillingham delivers a raw message on excellence and what average really looks like. "It was a really, really bad day on offense. And it all stems from the passion we play with." "Is it okay to not make a play? And if you accept it, then you accept it and that's who you're gonna be." Then he laid out the truth: "Don't be mad going 5-7. It's okay. Don't be mad going 6-6. Don't be mad going 3-9. 'Cause somebody has to go those records. There's gonna be tons of teams who do it. Why not us?" If you accept average, you'll become average. "We didn't practice bad - we didn't practice with passion." "The best teams - it matters all the time. You wanna win everything. And today we didn't have that mindset." They look to compete every single day. They win because they have a winning mindset. "We didn't wanna win. We wanted to practice. And those are 2 different mindsets to me." Then he dropped the line: "It was a good practice for a bad team. It was an average practice for an average team. That's what today was." This is what the mindset of excellence looks like: "We didn't practice with passion." → Good isn't good enough. "It matters all the time." → Standards never take a day off. "It was a good practice for a bad team." → Champions demand more. (🎥@LaCertosaSports)

Give your energy to what earns the result you want. “When you worry about results, like so many people in our society do, it makes it tough to ever be happy. We don’t concern ourselves with the results, we try to focus on what exactly it is we want to achieve Unbelievable effort, toughness, resiliency. If you do that, you’ll get good results.”

If you’re looking for excuses, you’ll always find them. I love KOC’s message here. Every team faces adversity. Injuries. Mistakes. Bad breaks. The best teams don’t waste time making excuses. They take ownership, find solutions, and move forward.

This is such a teachable moment for our own HS players about the consequences of your emotional actions!! It can loose you a ball game!
