Call me cynical maybe 🤔 but to me seeing peoples money as a resource and getting them to spend it is not what #StrenghtsBased practice in #SocialWork is or should be? Too often organisations take language/an ideology and use it as they see fit, diluting meaning!

The Prime Minister’s claims of a ‘sicknote culture’ where mental ill health is confused with ‘everyday worries’ are not based on robust evidence - and could lead to policies that do more harm than good. Our response in full 👇🧵 centreformentalhealth.org.uk…

If the Government views social security payments to people living with mental health problems as ‘unsustainable’, the answer must surely be to address to determinants of mental health and illness, not to restrict the entitlements of those currently struggling

Rishi Sunak today announced plans to review the fit note system for people who aren’t well enough to work, with a focus on mental health. His speech continues a trend in recent rhetoric that is stigmatising, harmful, and inaccurate.

Deeply disappointing and worrying to see the Prime Minister’s comments about mental ill health and work. Belittling mental ill health as ‘everyday challenges and worries’ won’t help anyone get or keep work. theguardian.com/politics/202…

Don’t even know where to begin with #SickNoteCulture but I’m FURIOUS 😡 just another way to further discriminate against those with #Disabilities. Being in work is a privilege - not everyone can, no matter how much shame the government tries to bestow on people!

Well, what a wonderful day we’ve had at our Research & Innovation Conference. I was in awe of the STARS programme and the fact that we have trained over 1000 individuals to appreciate and further explore RD&I #mpftresearch

Sadly not surprising! For a profession that preaches the importance of connection, supervision and legislation the underpins wellbeing, in practice it is so hard to find! More research which leads to meaningful change is needed! #SocialWork

Love when they’re open access. “Social workers employed in an understaffed and overburdened environment are at higher risk of experiencing burnout, psychopathology and other mental health problems (McFadden et al., 2015; Ravalier et al., 2021; Griffiths et al. 2023)” interesting.

Such an interesting article about #NQSWs in Wales communitycare.co.uk/2024/02/…. Whilst in England the requirements are different, there is definitely challenges regarding support/wider systemic issues I think! #SocialWork
