All that being said — appreciate your fanfic authors, engage with content you love, have relationships with the authors that move you. This is a COMMUNITY, not a store. We can help each other. I don't have expectations for my readers because I ask they don't enforce expectations

As an ao3 author, here's my take on the strange discourse going around about stories being shared on drives: I wrote it for free, I put it on the internet for free, I assumed that meant people were reading, sharing, and downloading for free If I published a book, my expectation

On me. I've been writing one story for 3 years. They are patient and gracious with me. In return I don't force them to engage with me, praise me, or be loyal to me. We respect each other and in that relationship I've NEVER felt unsupported. That's really all that's needed.

it as a way to connect with each other. That's what the community at the library is about. If the building burned down, all the books inside it, it would be the community to rebuild and restock. The Google drives would refill the archive so go ahead — share them.

And I'll even go so far as to say thank you to those with their own drive libraries who are opening their doors to the public and allowing unfiltered, uncensored art continue to be shared and celebrated while our platform fights to keep our space safe.

'go to hell' is basic. 'I hope ao3 is down for a month' is terrifying, orignal and it happened to me

We estimate that service restoration for #AO3 will take around 2 weeks but it could be up to 4 weeks. We are hopeful that we will be able to bring the site back up in a degraded state sooner. Refer to our status page for updates: otwstatus.org/
