Played my first Riftbound prereleases this weekend!
2-1 with Ziggs, then 3-0 with Ekko the next day once I'd more or less learnt how to play.
Very strong pools (I think). Both Mordekaisers appear to be bombs, and Ekko + Twice Slain was a brutal combo.

Had very little time to play Arena Directs last week. I did at least manage to get a few on the iPad whilst in Ghent, including this monster from Saturday night.
Final score of 7 CBBs, spent entry fees roughly 1/3 of the value won.
"No changes" - honestly fair enough given the mid-season timing, but I'm not sure I share the optimism re. format adapting to Broodscale.
Anyway, happy to keep casting 13/13s whilst they let me π
Banned and Restricted Announcement for October 12 #mtg

Had a few "what gets banned from Broodscale" chats last week. I could make an argument for any of: KCommand, Temple, Emrakul, Saga, combo.
Of these, I think Emrakul is (sadly) the choice. Leaves the deck "alive" whilst making counterplay way easier, and hits few other decks.

We have a Regional Champion! π
Alexander Rosdahl, supported by his Swedish compatriots, emerges victorious in a Broodscale mirror match in the finals to lift the trophy in Ghent!
10-3-1 at RC Ghent, 39th place. No shiny promo, but I get $750, next RC invite, and (I think) I pass down a bonus PT invite to 40th!
Happy with the list. Made a few misplays along the way but also played some very good Magic.
@worldlycounsel EU team cracked as always
Surprise: it was Broodscale! π±
6-2 into day 2, now 7-2.
Always fun working with the
@worldlycounsel EU team, and thanks to @MtgRent for their help sourcing cards too π
Charles Eliatamby π¬π§ is 8-0 overnight with the Broodscale Combo build cooked up by team Worldly Counsel's testing house:
β’ Delighted Halfling for more keepable opening hands
β’ Main deck Shadowspear to boost Urza's Saga
β’ Karn, the Great Creator in the sideboard for the mirror
Headed to RC Ghent with my pet lizard and giant eldritch horror girlfriend.
Can't say what deck I'm playing until tomorrow π€«

Riftbound having the βask before touching cardsβ discourse
If you play a tournament, your cards are entering a shared play space, which shockingly, might lead to them getting touched! It comes w the territory.
If itβs an expensive card, a quick βMay I?β works, but come on now

This morning, the D&D team and Magic's Studio X informed our leadership of our intent to unionize. We love the games we make and the work we do, and unionizing is how we protect that work.

Not playing as much of this Arena Direct with The Hobbit, but I do want to show off this truly ridiculous pool (7-1)
I was genuinely nervous after I lost a game to drop to 5-1, because I knew if I didn't trophy it would be deeply embarrassing π
Broodscale was the clear deck to beat, people prepared for it, and yet it still posted a 55% winrate in Canada this weekend (also 54% in JP). Absolutely dominant performance.
If anyone wants to play the broken deck at the coming RCs before it gets banned, check out my guide!

Swiss data from Face to Face RC
Smaller RC, so small sample size but should be accurate.
