Izuku had already devised a strategy for dealing with this villain and while it was a solid plan there was little chance he'd get away unscathed. Until they used their quirk, Midoriya would hold back just enough to (hopefully) defeat them.

He was a evasive and tactical bastard that could pack a wallop. He wouldn't charge right at them when they had a dagger. He could try using one of the moves Uraraka showed him to get in close and get that weapon off of them then deliver a smash. Yeah that's the plan now.

He was prepared for a fight. He would rely on danger sense to anticipate when they would try slashing or stabbing him. He would use smokescreen to cover his tracks and he would use blackwhip to detain. He thought he had it all figured out, but he was so wrong.
