Mice Fooled by Optical Illusions: New Insights into Brain Function
Mice are capable of perceiving neon color spreading, a type of visual illusion previously studied only in humans.
The study is the first to use both electrophysiology and optogenetics to examine the illusion's effect on mice.
This research sheds light on which neuronal levels are crucial for processing the perception of brightness, revealing that while the primary visual cortex (V1) reacts to visual stimuli generally, the secondary visual cortex (V2) plays a specific role in enhancing the illusion.
These findings not only demonstrate that mice can be used to study complex perceptual phenomena but also pave the way for further exploration into the neural basis of consciousness and sensory perception.

Mice Fooled by Optical Illusions: New Insights into Brain Function
Mice can experience visual illusions, revealing new layers of brain function! Using electrophysiology and optogenetics, researchers uncover how neurons orchestrate the perception of illusions. A step closer to understanding consciousness?

You are looking for a PhD/postdoc position & are excited about this kind of work👇?
@sinzlab has an open position! Work together with @AToliasLab myself & a great team on using machine learning tools to better understand the visual system
DM if interested
Pls spread the word🙏
So excited this is out @Nature 🎉

#HazaraGenocide has been going on for a century!
Thank you, Clare, for being our voice!
#StopHazaraGenocide
Month after month the people of #Afghanistan suffer and die, incl 53 mainly #Hazara girls last week, a people at risk of #genocide.. And yet the world says & does nothing. What have these people done to deserve this? Time to speak up, to stand up and demand #justice4afghanistan
Drawal of international troops from Afghanistan, violence against the #Hazara population has escalated. With a long history of persecution, including by the Taliban, the Hazaras are right to fear a genocide.

A phase shift in the response of neurons to physical vs. illusory grating demonstrates that neurons are indeed responding to the illusory "darker than black."

ALT (a) Example stimuli and a schematic of grating bar brightness are shown to illustrate that the illusory grating in NCS stimuli is 180° out of phase with the physical grating (LDG stimuli). (b) Frequency profile of single unit with an F1 dominant component of the power spectrum. (c) Phase shift between the response evoked by NCS and LDG stimuli (N = 209 units with an F1 dominant component in the evoked response).

🎉 The first #CyberValley Start-up #Incubation Program was exciting, lots of fun and a big success. A huge thank you to all participants, coaches, jury members, partners, and guests, who made this experience so special!
Hi,
We like to know about the memory load in different population groups and how satisfied they are with their memory performance.
We appreciate it if you follow the link below and do a survey.
It will take less than one minute.
Thank you in advance.
