I think its bc we measure adulthood through independence while making independence increasingly unaffordable. Ppl end up interpreting their economic dependence as evidence of personal immaturity, then seeking the social leniency we afford children. It's a strange feedback loop.

I think one less discussed consequence of this is that ppl w/ less money have to justify their absence from important moments in other ppl's lives bc financial constraints are experienced as relational failures. So inequality shapes who is perceived as a good friend/family member

The discourse on the Eagles’ handling of Jalen Hurt’s health ignores the real problem:
that the NFL is nothing more than a bunch of old white men offering young Black men the promise of generational wealth by paying money to watch them destroy their bodies for our entertainment.
So Jalen Hurts learned about the blood clot before the Eagles game in London. Doctors told him not to sleep as a precaution, so Hurts started an NFL game after being awake for 36 hours, including an international flight. Now imaging has shown additional blood clots in his lungs. He's going on blood thinners and will be out for the rest of the year. What are we doing here? That's the most horrific player safety plan I have ever seen.
