SummerSlam 1992 was moved from Maryland to Wembley Stadium in London specifically because of Davey Boy Smith. His popularity in the UK was so significant that WWE sold out 80,000 tickets in eleven hours. Davey Boy was led to the ring by boxing champion Lennox Lewis in front of 80,355 of his own countrymen. He pinned Bret Hart to win the Intercontinental Championship in what Pro Wrestling Illustrated voted Match of the Year. Davey Boy Smith was so over in his home country that WWE built an entire pay per view around him. He delivered one of the greatest matches in WWE history on the biggest stage they had ever given him.

My match with Davey Boy at WrestleMania VII was incredible. Both of us being so big, we could move & our styles went together so well. It was so cool being in the ring with him knowing how good of a wrestler he was. It was an honor & I will always treasure that match for life.
A letter written by my uncle Owen to my dad, while Davey was in the hospital in Calgary- April, 1999. Owen always made an effort to visit my dad regularly when my dad was suffering with his staph infection where his back was broken. This was right when Davey was released from WCW
