Many have tried for hundreds of years, to no avail, they eventually end up accepting the truth or arrogantly lie to themselves.
Your "Surely historians would’ve seen and recorded him if he remained alive?" is an argument from silence fallacy, besides, historians don't usually live in the same History they write about so your 'seen' requirement is funny.
There are only a few historians from that century, even less ones with preserved writings; Josephus' (born after the resurrection) writings that the og Daily Mail post was about is a strong one showing that there were many people that believed they saw Jesus risen from the dead. Much of other history from the same time we hold to be true are from Josephus' Antiquities.
BUT we do have other real people from Jesus' lifetime that saw the risen Christ and his ascension into Heaven and their writings are in the New Testament and they were / fully became 'Christians', and it's funny cos that's why you dismiss their testimony.
John 20:29 captures this talking point very well.
- Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, do you now believe? Blessed [happy, spiritually secure, and favored by God] are they who did not see [Me] and yet believed [in Me].”
