gist.github.com/minuteman3/a… give it a try - you'll need MySQL 8.4 and your mysqld will probably need --max-heap-table-size=1G --tmp-table-size=1G, but then: mysql -e 'CREATE DATABASE doom' mysql -N -r doom < doom-play.sql
Inspired by @QuinnyPig running Doom entirely in DNS and regretting that I'll miss his visit to the Fin office tomorrow, I made a program to turn a static binary compiled for RISC-V into a self contained mysql dump which runs entirely in one recursive CTE. Doom runs at 1.5fps!

The temptation to keep going, turn LLVM-IR directly into mysql dumps and try and port Rust to MySQL before someone ports MySQL to Rust is real.

Good time to remind people on the Internet to read this akshay.co/posts/compactions-…
confirmed: you probably shouldn’t use claude code’s full 1m context window. two reasons: - compacting a massive context is expensive and burns through your token quota. - output quality gradually degrades as context fills up. the model starts missing details and losing track of earlier instructions. 400k tokens seems to be the sweet spot between cost and output quality. you can configure claude code to automatically compact at 400k by adding this to ~/.claude/settings.json: { "autoCompactWindow": 400000 } 400k isn’t a magic number, but there’s little point in filling up 1m tokens just because you can 😁

This is the coolest thing I’ve seen in a minute. This is the sort of future I imagined reading sci-fi books growing up.
After six years in stealth, Atomic Machines is out. Our mission: on-demand, universal command of matter. First beachhead: the Matter Compiler, an AI-native manufacturing system that builds working micro-machines from code alone. No per-product tooling. No process development. Different code, different machine.

I've been doing a lot of 3D printing and hardware work recently and was sick of Nautilus on Omarchy not showing previews for STEP, 3MF, etc. - so I made github.com/minuteman3/oma-pe…. The sushi preview lets you browse plates/parts and orbit the model, too.

Bit of a contrived example from during development, but here's how it looks in practice!

Intercom uses #Rails to enable hundreds of engineers to ship changes quickly without slow, centralized reviews. But running migrations across hundreds of tables and terabytes of MySQL data comes with real risks. In his #RailsWorld 2025 @_minuteman3 will share the changes they made to reduce risk and enable their engineers to safely move fast. rubyonrails.org/world/2025/d… @intercom

The things that make a difference at scale are so wild. Using ignored_columns in Rails results in SQL queries that list each column to be read, versus just "SELECT *". For tables with many columns, this meant we were sending ~20 TB of extra text to the database per day.

Okay, that's nuts. We sold out in 20 minutes!! I love this Rails Renaissance energy. I haven't felt this much excitement since the very earliest days of Rails. I can't wait to see all 1,000 lucky Rails World attendees in September.
#RailsWorld is now sold out. We can't wait to welcome you to Toronto! If there are any unclaimed or returned tickets from sponsors, we will release a second, smaller batch later in the year.

So I can go out and spend £80 on a meal tonight with my wife and my 2 boys and we’ll get £40 off. Yet a family with two children who have lost their jobs that I’ve been delivering food parcels to only get £30 for a week. Something is properly messed up.

RISE TD Paul Murphy asks the Dail if instead of a €16k pay rise would ministers of State accept a round of applause - just like they have given to frontline workers who put their lives on the line during the Covid pandemic.

Again what is ‘traditional working class?’. More people migrated to Britain from Poland, Italy, Ireland and Germany after the war than Caribbean and India... so who is ‘traditional’ and on what grounds? Say it with your whole chest big man 👊🏾
