env vars are pretty dumb. why don’t we have some sort of oauth/connector system that directly authorizes usage…

somehow signing in to chase.com on a muse browser has become 'endangering the entire global financial system'
the plot has been lost
This is insane. We cannot allow AI agents to go into your bank account and act independently without your authorization. But that is what’s happening right now.
Left unchecked, AI could endanger the entire global financial system — including your bank account.
Pause AI NOW!
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Per Axios, detected AI agents access bank accounts with the customer’s permission. This violates most banks’ terms requiring human logins, which is why banks call it “unauthorized.”

Someone please check on the designer who shipped this. The complete absence of joy, color, and playfulness is genuinely heartbreaking 💔

"Math was made by humans for humans"
And now humans have given math the ability to think about itself, and reach into the dark unknown, bringing back new knowledge.
If you can't see how gloriously transcendent and divine this is, I feel bad for you.
Why wouldn’t mathematicians want solutions to these huge open maths problems?
shoutout @mathandcobb for being a consistent voice in this conversation

"Mathematicians did not ask for this work to be done" might become one of the historical quotes from this era, perfectly depicting the downfall of academia

imagine if carpenters believed something like "the value of carpentry is not in me producing a nice cabinet for you, it's actually my personal enjoyment of the process. the finished cabinet is a side effect."
turns out this is how mathematicians think. I genuinely had no idea.

we're going to see a lot more of this in a lot of different fields
if these people genuinely loved math, they would be throwing parties to celebrate what might be one of the biggest days for mathematics in decades. but instead they're calling for a boycott
and it makes me wonder how many of them actually love math, and how many just love being seen as mathematicians.
because for a lot of people, the point of studying math isn't necessarily to understand the world, to explain it, or to advance the field. it's to be seen as a mathematician. to have a sense of importance, to feel valued by others. their entire identity is centered around this, and their goal is to be needed and considered smart
i think a lot of people are about to realize that what gave their life meaning wasn't really the work itself, but the fact that they were the ones doing it.
and i wonder what will happen when this happens to all professions. will we finally be forced to figure out what it means to be human?
maybe people will rediscover meaning in family, relationships and things outside of their careers.
or maybe millions of people will have an existential crisis because the one thing they've built their entire identity around is suddenly no longer needed
i genuinely wonder if society is ready for it

I'm really serious here, I need an alternative to @1Password, it's getting unbearable. From the little lock inside fields not appearing, to it appearing and doing nothing on click, to the extension window taking 3 seconds to appear, to it just locking whenever it wants... it's gone off a cliff.
when will we get a new standard for auth for agents? need something sort of like Link's wallet for agents. but an open standard
This is one of China's most formidable advantages: 93% of the Chinese believe AI will help their country. Only 36% of Americans do. These are dire numbers for the US. We have to turn this around.
'An average of 72 percent of respondents said they felt curious, happy or excited about A.I., compared with 41 percent who felt worried, sad or angry.' @nytimes's Damien Cave uses @Gallup data to remind us the rest of the world digs AI. It’s always a message of fear. My entire life. Nuclear winter, killer bees, acid rain, global warming, rebranded climate change, Covid, now AI. Reject the demonic spirit of fear.
can't believe they keep finding ways to make @1Password worse and worse. incredible
How did this country become a bunch of cowards.
China is shipping stuff, optimistic about the future, producing most the worlds stuff.
US is stuck in some limp ass culture where we scared of everything and focusing on fear.
Be brave again, I’m tired of this.

The universal truth across history is that peddling a narrative of fear is always a guise to gain control of a free people, by scaring them into surrendering their rights, freedoms, and civil liberties.
Powerful AI will be developed, the question is who is empowered to use it.
TERRIFYING: Former Anthropic AI Systems Developer Jacob Coxon: “We know how to control nuclear weapons pretty much. We DON’T YET know how to control AI. This is possibly the most DANGEROUS technology that humanity has ever created. It’s basically out of science fiction.”
“I think we have NO OTHER choice but to cooperate internationally because an arms race would be disastrous in a way that no other human activity has been in the past.”
