Been seeing a lot of posts I find hard to believe, so I had to try it myself. Had GPT-6 Astra model and render an OP-1 Field in Houdini via MCP. There's issues, but, man I'm impressed. Doing a deeper dive and providing the scene later, but here's some thoughts and evidence below 🔽
I find it super useful in Houdini to have help with more complicated setups, and basically used Claude and Codex to learn Solaris and USD. There's so many issues with this project file that make it unworkable to a human, but it's still interesting to see where things are at and its native understanding. You really need to be the one driving in order to get a decent result with any of these models, the opposite of this test. Any tool should empower, not replace.
I maintain my own fork of a really great Houdini MCP @valentinbeaumon set up. Initially added support for browsing the documentation server but have since added a few more additions to steer it more towards how I like to work: github.com/nscrdev/fxhoudini…
Looking forward to it!!
Nick Scarcella will soon be teaching at Houdini.School! 🥳 Stay tuned for his course announcement. @_nscr is a multidisciplinary Artist and Art Director specializing in CG and photorealistic visuals. He created this tunnel animation for Frontier, made at FutureDeluxe.
I gotta try this for myself because my experience with llms has never been close to this
Very excited to share more soon!
another banger from @JoakimEkstroem! the film is awesome, the breakdown equally so. finishing personal projects is SO hard as anyone who has tried it knows. really awesome to see the process behind how he approached it
