I wrote about the history of Grenada’s Carnival and how traditional mas characters can be used as political counter narrative; also went to Spicemas last year and it was an experience!

British royalty visited The Bahamas, a former colony and former site of African slavery, and this is how Black Bahamians were put on display in public, a few steps away from the actual place where their ancestors were placed on pedestals in similar fashion to be sold to Brits?

This is the problem with the discussion. A lot of people are conflating the removal of Charles as Bahamian head of state with severing diplomatic ties with the UK.
There are 56 Commonwealth countries. Only 15 retain Charles as head of state. 4 were never even British colonies.

The Rastafarian community secured their permit to protest days ago, and they are doing so peacefully, so Idk what the issue is. We have done an injustice to them by letting them advocate on our behalf by themselves for so long to the point that reparations seems like a mystical

Junkanoo, a practice of resistance of African enslaved people and their descendants after them, used to entertain the beneficiary of slavery and colonization is beyond insulting.

Per the Antiquities, Monuments and Museums (Amendment) Act, The Bahamas Gov’t splits the value of sunken treasure 50/50 with the treasure’s finder. The gov’t can claim more than 50, if it deems it necessary.
This particular fight is over the finders’ share of what’s left.

In 1970, The Bahamas was a self-governing colony. The Brits controlled foreign affairs.
The Brits allowed the U.S. to dump 1000s of gallons of nerve gas and land mines in Bahamian waters off Abaco. It was a big controversy.
It led to an int’l ban on oceanic nerve gas dumping.

It’s insane.
The Bahamas is struggling to keep electricity on, vital bridges are literally crumbling, one of the country’s busiest airports is only having its runway resurfaced because a major carrier stopped service until it’s fixed, but no expense spared for King Charles.
