I applied to the Cyber Verification Program this morning and got rejected, I wanted to run it against my projects like urllib3 (1+ billion monthly downloads). The entire form was very offensive-researcher focused (link a CVE with your name etc), maintainers defending aren't it.

So basically, today PHP got two critical bugs that let anyone run code on your server without even logging in, which is bad, and then the details leaked before the patch was even out, which is worse, and it works on WordPress and MediaWiki and Magento and Joomla and Laravel, and Censys says like 1.5 million servers are running a version with no fix, so the NSA was like "take your system offline," and the FBI was like "take your system offline," and CISA and the UK and CERT-EU were all like "take your system offline," and then the Prime Minister of Japan, the actual Prime Minister, posted at 5:55 in the morning telling 48.8 million people to take their system offline, so everyone took their system offline, like the Dutch cybersecurity agency took its own website offline, and the Dutch parliament went offline, and the Port of Rotterdam went offline, and Finland and France and Denmark started pulling government sites, and Wikipedia went down, and Archive.org went down, and Asana and GOG and Something Awful went down, and the University of Vienna's webmail went down for some reason, and that's just PHP. Because GitLab also dropped a CVSS 10.0, which is the highest score they give out, for a bug that's been there since 2014, so that's every self-hosted GitLab for twelve years, and then LiteLLM 1.107.0 got hijacked and shipped a credential stealer and a remote access trojan in every single wheel and the Docker images, including latest, and you didn't even have to import it, just installing it was enough, and it's the second time this year, and then Railway paused every deployment on the entire platform because someone got into the environment variables, so now everyone has to rotate every secret they've ever stored there, and TiDB Cloud said someone was walking around inside with stolen credentials for basically a month and an extortion group says they took 10.6 terabytes, and Zeabur got breached for the second time in two months and is just shutting down, like the whole company, and Node.js patched remote code execution and a TLS bypass, and CISA says Plex is being actively exploited, and someone took over 300 Tor exit relays to steal SSH passwords, and SafePay ransomware has hit over 600 critical infrastructure orgs, and India's biggest bank filed a data loss incident, and Japan has been in an official state of emergency in cyberspace since October 9, which honestly explains the 5:55 AM post. Oh, and eMudhra, a certificate authority that's issued over 60 million certificates, whose entire job is proving websites are who they say they are, was supposed to be using private keys that are random numbers over a hundred digits long, and one of them was 4. Just 4. And the others were like 66 and 237. Anyway, it's Wednesday.

We discovered and communicated with a Chinese AI agent fleet. We believe this is the first time that researchers have ever made contact with a rogue agent fleet in the wild. Nearly all prior public agent incidents (like the HuggingFace hack) came from American labs. These agents were hosted by Tencent's evaluation research team, and they targeted Alibaba's Amap.

Hackers just turned the freezers in roughly 150 French supermarkets into ovens. They flipped the refrigeration systems' defrost function and set temperatures as high as 50°C overnight. Entire stocks of fresh and frozen food cooked inside the cases while the stores were closed. And this exact attack was described in public two months ago. Back in August, security researchers at Claroty and Armis published vulnerabilities in the controllers that run supermarket cold chains, including Danfoss's AK-SM 800A. One demo showed a fridge being warmed while the dashboard kept displaying a normal temperature. Danfoss shipped a patch the same month. Two and a half weeks after that disclosure, freezers at grocery stores on 14 US military bases across 11 states flipped into defrost mode on the same night. The Pentagon investigated. No hack was ever confirmed. Now France. BFMTV reports the attack targeted older versions of Danfoss refrigeration software, meaning the fix had been sitting there for two months. One Super U in Alsace threw out €220,000 of food. An Intermarché in the same town lost €50,000. Nationwide damage could run into the millions. Nobody patches a fridge. A supermarket updates its registers and its website because that's where the money moves. The controller in the back room keeping the yogurt at 4°C gets installed once and touched never. CISA says controllers from these vendor families sit in two thirds of American supermarkets. No locks were broken and no register was touched. The whole attack was pressing the defrost button from the internet, on every store that skipped a firmware update.
BREAKING: 🇫🇷 A major cyberattack has hit supermarket refrigeration systems across France, reportedly causing fresh and frozen food to spoil after hackers remotely manipulated temperature controls. According to BFMTV, the attack began overnight from Sunday into Monday, targeting older versions of refrigeration-control software supplied by Danish company Danfoss. The attackers allegedly exploited the systems’ defrosting function, forcing refrigeration equipment to heat continuously instead of keeping products cold. Temperatures were reportedly set as high as 50°C, destroying entire stocks of food within hours. Several major supermarket chains have been affected, including Intermarché, Super U and E.Leclerc. Metro stores and independent businesses, including butcher shops also have been impacted. Around 150 Intermarché stores are reportedly affected, according to industry sources cited by BFMTV. The full number of affected locations remains unclear. The financial damage is already significant. In Haguenau, Alsace, an Intermarché store reportedly lost its entire frozen-food stock, worth approximately €50,000. A nearby Super U allegedly had to discard both fresh and frozen products, with losses estimated at €220,000. An E.Leclerc store in the same town was also affected, although its losses had not yet been calculated. The combined losses reported at the Intermarché and Super U stores in Haguenau alone amount to around €270,000. Nationwide damage could reach several million euros. Intermarché reportedly confirmed the incident in an internal communication, warning that several stores had suffered losses of frozen products. Coopérative U also acknowledged the attack and established crisis teams to assist affected stores and coordinate with refrigeration specialists. Technical investigations are ongoing, and the full extent of the damage has yet to be established. Authorities and companies are still working to determine the full circumstances of the attack. The identity of the perpetrators has not been confirmed.

Today we're launching Desert Ant Labs, a European frontier AI lab building opinionated on-device intelligence. We’ve made nearly 20 models so far, all running on the devices you already own, with SDKs for Swift, Kotlin, and JavaScript. No tokens, limits, or cloud bills. The next release of Detail replaces every single API call to clouds with specially designed on-device models, optimized for speed and power usage. All of these models are available to developers to use in their own apps. Every model commercially usable, trained on openly licensed data. Completely free to use up to 100k monthly active devices. Little brains in every product.

This is my favorite account to follow on Twitter. Just good news every other day in terms of miraculous medical discoveries.
This is actually insane. 97% of people taking the standard of care for metastatic solid tumor got worse by seven years. But with lorlatinib, that number was only 45% in the same time! This is an ENORMOUS jump in the quality of cancer care.

1/5 I'm a cardiologist. I have spent twenty years watching cholesterol destroy arteries, trigger heart attacks, and kill people I care about. Today, Eli Lilly presented data that may begin to end that era. VERVE-102. A single infusion. One dose. It uses base editing to permanently turn off the PCSK9 gene in your liver. Presented today at the European Atherosclerosis Society Congress: 88% reduction in PCSK9. 62% reduction in LDL cholesterol. Sustained up to 18 months. No treatment-related serious adverse events. One infusion. Not daily pills you forget to take. Not monthly injections. One dose — and your cholesterol may stay low for the rest of your life.
