When my husband and I were planning our wedding, we hired a harpist to perform during the ceremony. One of our specific requests was "Come What May" from Moulin Rouge (this was 2001). The sheet music wasn't available yet, but she offered to transcribe the song. We LOVED her so much. She, in turn, told us about requests she had received from other couples...

Host: “If you don’t pay the $200 cleaning fee in cash right now, I’m cancelling your booking.”
I looked at the guy standing in the doorway of the beach house I’d booked on Airbnb.
Me: “The listing explicitly said all fees were included. I’m not paying extra cash on arrival.”
Host: “My house, my rules. Pay up or get off my property.”
I was exhausted after a six-hour drive, but I refused to let him shake me down. I pulled out my phone to call Airbnb support and report the extortion.
Host: “Go ahead and call them! They won’t respond before tonight anyway, and you’ll be sleeping in your car!”
Before I could dial, a red pickup truck pulled into the driveway. An older man stepped out, looking furious...

My husband and I officially ended our relationship last night. It was bittersweet and quiet and full of love and heartbreak at the same time, because despite the toxicity that’s grown between us over the years, we’re still best friends. But he said something that struck me during those hours of conversation: “I would marry you all over again in a heartbeat… if I could have the college version of you back. Where did she go? Bring her back.”
