🗺️ Antioquia department and years 2000–2005 were most severely affected. After the 2016 Peace Accords a slight resurgence is seen in some departments.

📊 >640,000 conflict-related homicides, almost 30,000 forced recruitments, and >60,000 conflict-related kidnappings estimated between 1985 and 2018. The scale of what registers miss is staggering.

In this JRSS(A) work I examine the overall and stratified (gender, department, year) extent of conflict-related human rights violations in Colombia between 1985 and 2018, identifying very clear patterns; proposing computationally efficient Ridge-type smoothed estimators.

More than 640,000 people have died due to the conflict, almost 30,000 experienced forced recruitment, and there were more than 60,000 conflict-related kidnappings. Memory is a duty to the victims; and shall help us build a peaceful world, where human rights are given priority

You cannot bomb your way to trust, nor can you shoot your way to lasting safety. The history of the Middle East has reminded us of this truth time and again. Every new act of violence deepens wounds, fuels resentment, and sows the seeds of conflict for years to come. If we seek a future free of fear and mourning, we must first stop feeding the flames of hate and violence. The path forward, our only path forward, is the hard, courageous choice to build peace. #ChoosePeace
